Something strange has happened. Ichigo won't go outside. He was fine Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Sunday evening he refused to go outside. We let it go because he went out earlier. Today he won't go outside either. I swear he has developed agoraphobia or something. He is absolutely terrified. I don't know what to do about it because I've never had a dog that wouldn't go outside. It's only been one day but if it is something serious I want to do something about it before it escalates out of control. Any suggestions would be helpful.

*****UPDATE*******

It's been a few weeks and Ichi has gotten comfortable with the outside world again. I think he's is taking his time to adjust to his new surroundings. He is even exploring outside the boundaries of our yard and into the neighbor's yard which is beginning to be an issue. Now on to his new nemesis....the ceiling fan.

The other day, when all the snow and ice was melted, Chester didn't want to go outside. It's like he gets used to something and when it changes he can't handle it, doesn't trust it. When that happens, I grab his leash and take him out. (He normally doesn't go outside on his leash, we have a fenced in yard)

If it's his leash, I think he does need some training. Maybe just walk him around inside by the leash for a while. just to get him used to wearing it.

we figured it out ...i think. It's his lead. It scares him. I think that he really needs to be leash trained. I honestly don't think he's ever been on one until he came to us.

Have you tried a different door?

Have you always went outside with Ichigo and then suddenly stopped? Or, has Ichigo and Nana always gone out together without your supervision? If so, could Nana had done something to Ichigo while outside that you didn't see?

Also, like Wendt Worth stated, has it been windy or raining harder than normal? Duncan refuses to go outside if it's raining too hard or if the wind is blowing too hard.

It has gotten cooler and it did rain some. We've only had him for a few days so I don't know if this is normal for him. When we go out we walk and then play in the yard (throwing around a ball and rope toy that they like).

Has it gotten really cold or windy out? Is it raining? They say the sound of rain escalates other sounds and sometimes it can hurt a dogs ears which is why many hesitate or don't want to go out. I heard that on a recording while put on waiting for pet insurance. Do you make the outdoors fun for him?

I think I am mean mom but if Owen pulls that I pick him up and go out. He is usually on a leash when we are going out and pulls the flat dog thing. I figure if he is barking at me.. we go out for a potty. I just don't want him to be more of a drama queen. He already growls if you wiggle or move or make his life unperfect. :)
