This pretty much sums it up, I know everyone here gets the looks like I do that ur nuts when u start talking to people that either dont have dogs or dont truly just feel its an animal and not part of the family...

Just a Dog

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man." So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

When Basil was killed by a trap in the ditch near our home and we were in the process of trying to pass legislation to make it illeagal to trap in the right of way that phrase kept coming up. One senator in particular enjoys using that to this day just to get me going. At least we passed the bill. We will have to deal with repeals from year to year and I will continue to hear that phrase. Some people are so focused on themselves that it is difficult for them to understand giving away love. I feel sorry for them. They won't ever know and experience what we all have. Truly a gift.

There's no one in my general circle of contacts that would even dare say that to me. They know how I feel about both my guys and especially about Henry. My genetic family, now that would be different... I know Henry has given me a gift better than any other I've ever received or will receive. That gift is his love, and I dare anyone to try and say he doesn't love me. I know different!

My father never could understand the dedication and loyalty I had for my animals but then again he was "just a father". I've always like this poem...I know I posted it here in one of the groups.

I understand our dogs are not dogs they are family. Many people do not understand and are missing so much by not living with a corgi. Like the laughs, the groans and most of all the love. :)
