I took Sophie to the vet this morning because she has been limping since Tuesday evening. He said that he recommends that she have surgery to correct the ligament. Has anyone been faced with this decision, and if so what helped you decide? I am wondering if there is another option. I am open to any suggestions. I want to do my homework to make sure I make the right decision for my baby!

our springer had acl sx years ago, as did my father's dog. in my dad's case it was because his dog who should have weighed 30 lbs. looked like a coffee table (mix breed) in our case augie doggie spent his life following me on trail rides, playing w/ the kids etc. both surg. completely fixed the probs, and both dogs went on to live long and hopefully happy lives. hope this helps!

I would 2nd the second opinion. What's the surgery for, exactly? There are certainly good reasons to have surgery as John says, but there are also plenty of reasons why her limp is slow to resolve that don't require surgery to fix. There are plenty of spot-on breeders who will give you good advice here, but for your own peace of mind, I would talk very thoroughly to the vet and get as good info as you can. Some states have specialty orthopedists for dogs (in CT we have a place in Norwalk) and that might be a place to follow up, if there's one around you.

2nd opinion?
Consult some of the longtime hardcore corgi experts/breeders?
Id it a torn ACL? We had a cat who fell 2 1/2 storeys, completely blew his ACL. Surgery was expensive but pretty effective.
