We took Wrigley to the dog park yesterday and halfway through our visit, he started limping slightly. We kept an eye on him the whole time and the only thing we can come up with is that he slipped a little on the pebbles they had there and maybe twisted his ankle. He was still running and playing afterwards and he didn't seem to be in pain. He was stretching it and walking on it just fine, but as we were about to leave, he wouldn't put weight on it. We let him rest for a bit while we check it out and nothing seems to be broken or out of place. He walked to the car with no limp and ran to our door just fine, but then when we took him out later to go potty, he was limping again. I'm worried he sprained an ankle or something, but my boyfriend says it's common and he will be okay. He lets us touch it with no problems and is walking on it fine most of the time, so I don't think it's too serious, but he worried me! If it isn't better in a few days, we will be going to the vet. :(

He seems to be fine today. He limped a little bit when I took him out first thing in the morning, but he has been fine since, even running around the house after the cat. I'm keeping an eye on him and if he seems to be limping again later, vet first thing in the morning!

I'm not sure why the dog park had pebbles. It was mainly around the benches and water area. He was chasing another dog to the water, so that might have been what did it.

I agree about the limping more than a week. He may have strained something in his leg or shoulder. Try and keep him quiet. As far as the pain killer, I only gave it to Duncan at night before he went to sleep when he strained his leg. I thought if he didn't have pain killers during the day, he would go a little easy on the strain, and it was easier to keep him quiet. I wanted him to have a good night's rest. That seemed to work.

Our Tenby started limping, vet did see anything really wrong and thought it could be a sprain or strain. Gave him rimadyl for 2 weeks, still was limping but it was a little better. Our Vet referred us to a orthopedic vet and with 4 x-rays they found a serious shoulder problem. My advice is don't ignore limping that last for a week or more.

I would wait a day with the pup under lock down no playing, running, or jumping. My Jordan was about 6 months playing with my sis's golden when he got rolled when he stood up he was howling like the world was ending wouldn't put weight on his back left leg and would howl louder if you even looked at it let alone touch it! So I rush him to my vet who couldn't find anything wrong but because Jordan (world champion I'm hurt howler) seemed to be in pain they gave him rimadyl enough for a week and sent us home with the same rules has above. However the next morning what do I wake up to? my Jordan and Cody useing my house as a race track!!! I never gave him anymore rimadryl and he never limped. Seems he was faking.

Sounds like he twisted something. If he can't put weight on it that's serious. Why have a dog walk on pebbles? That's a bad surface to play on. I would get an x-ray.
