Happy birthday / anniversary Wrigley!

Today is the one year anniversary of bringing Wrigley home from the shelter! Since he was about a year then, I am also celebrating his 2nd birthday today. We're going to celebrate by going for a walk, cuddling, playing with the laser pointer and making a steak for dinner! I can't believe it's only been a year, it seems like he has been with me for so much longer. :)…

Separation Anxiety

I have been on vacation for five days without my fur baby! I miss him so much! He is at home with my boyfriend, who says he misses me terribly. Apparently Wrigley has been super clingy and mopey and keeps watching the door, waiting for me. I feel so bad! I am coming home on Sunday night, but it feels like an eternity! In the meantime, I have been video chatting with my boyfriend over Skype and Wrigley freaks out when he sees me! I feel like I am going to get tackled when I was in the door and I… Continue

My Corgi is Annoying

Let me start off by saying I love my dog to death and he is the sweetest, most non-aggressive dog I have ever known. On the other hand, he is really annoying at the dog park. I try to take him to one at least once a week because it seems like he was socialized very well with humans, not so much with dogs, before he came to me. He LOVES playing with other dogs and running around, but the second other dogs start playing rough with one another, he starts barking. Not viciously, but more of a "Hey… Continue

Rainy Day Activites?

It's been raining pretty much every day here for the last two weeks and supposed to continue until Friday. Poor Wrigley has been cooped up inside for most of that time. We don't have a backyard and the dog park is a swamp, so those options are out even for a short run. I've taken him on a few walks (and got stuck in a monsoon once), but going outside doesn't seem to be much of an option right now. Any suggestions for indoor activities to keep Wrigley happy? We play fetch a few times a day, but… Continue

What IS my dog?

I've been trying to figure out what exactly Wrigley is for the last few months. I have had several people tell me he is just a big Corgi (and not show quality), I have had people tell me he looks like a Sheltie (I don't think so) and a few people told me he is just a poorly bred Corgi (I prefer "unique" so his feelings aren't hurt). He is about 35 lbs and seems to be about the size of a Beagle (I haven't seen him next to a Corgi yet), but much broader. I have tons of pictures of him on… Continue

Dog Mommy Guilt

So, ever since I have had Wrigley, I have been unemployed and basically, a stay at home dog mom. I love spending the day with my boy, but I recently found a job I am starting on Monday. I feel so incredibly guilty leaving him. I left for just a few hours today and came home to him just sitting on the couch looking bored. Luckily, I will be able to come home for lunch to take him out and refresh the water bowl, but I will miss him so much!

Any advice on how to cope with our first real… Continue

Limping

We took Wrigley to the dog park yesterday and halfway through our visit, he started limping slightly. We kept an eye on him the whole time and the only thing we can come up with is that he slipped a little on the pebbles they had there and maybe twisted his ankle. He was still running and playing afterwards and he didn't seem to be in pain. He was stretching it and walking on it just fine, but as we were about to leave, he wouldn't put weight on it. We let him rest for a bit while we check it… Continue

Leash Training and Excessive Barking

I have only had Wrig about a month and in that time, he has been almost perfect. I love him to death, but he is proving to be very stubborn when it comes to training. He was housetrained the second day we had him and has no food aggression or any other serious problems. The shelter said he is about a year old and he is nutered.

The major dilema is excessive barking. During the day, when he is with me alone, he sleeps, follows me around and sometimes chases the cat. We go for a long… Continue

Poor Wrigley

He was neutered on Tuesday and has been pretty bleh since. He is a very active dog and LOVES going for long walks and runs and playing and doesn't seem to understand we can't do that for a few days. When I take him out to go potty and take him right back in, he gives me this look like, "Where do you think you're going? We're not done out here." It's so sad. He has been laying around the last few days. I would love to give him something to do, but I'm worried about his stitches. Any advice to… Continue
