My Corgi is over protective of me on her leash outside. I Need Help.

Hello fellow and future Corgi owners. I am new to this site as of today and I have to say it is very helpfull and informative and I wish I had this when my Corgi Mika was a pup. I do however have a question and hoping somebody can help me out with it. ... Mika is very loyal and very protective of me and it is okay when we are in my apt. but out side on her leash I cant trust any body to bend down and pet her with out the fear of mika nipping. I would call a trainer but she is so stubborn I am not sure that would work... I am wondering if any body else is having this issues or had. I did break her of hearding around children but I'm completly lost with what to do about the leash thing. Thanks.

I would call a trainer because this is an area where you should be really careful. If she bites someone the situation could become very serious. I would say that she thinks she owns you and is protecting her property. Try googling Nothing In Life is Free and follow it. She needs to know you are the protector not her.

Also, carrying treats for her visitors to give her might be a good idea.  Let her associate people wanting to pet her with food... which is always a good thing!

One thing that may help would be to have people change the way they approach her.  To her, it may be intimidating to have people (who are so much taller) reach down to pet her.  Is she social otherwise?  If so, you could have people who want to pet her bend down and let her make the decision to go to them.  Just have people hold out their hand for her to smell first.  (Watching Dog whisperer, smell is the first way dogs greet eachother, not touch) This way SHE is making the decision to go to the person.  I know this doesn't help with her behavior right away, but hopefully it will help her gain some confidence and gradually start letting the people initiate contact.
