I always required Sparty to get in his bed when I vacuumed. However, Izzy is determined to kill the vacuum too and between them I decided it was not worth the effort. I just put them in a room with the door closed. I think they sense how much I hate cleaning! Fortunately Misty (she really could damage the vacuum )stays away from it completely.

a mild incident with the vacuum
I have to crate the dogs or put them outside. It hurts to deny them their favorite toy/prey.
Before I fenced the yard, Gwynn ran off in the dark; we had no idea where she was. After 5-10 minutes of growing panic, IDEA! I opened the basement door, turned on the shop vac, and our missing dog had her teeth sunk into the plastic nozzle within 7.3 seconds.
Have a spray bottle near. Spray the corgi when eh starts barking and with a stern voice tell him "quiet" or "no". Keep vacuuming, don't yell, it will encourage the behavior. Try to understand, that he is amazed that there is something that can "absorb" more than him. I think there is a thread on this already, and I have seen some videos on how to start training your dog to be used to the vacuum. Can't remember if it's here or on youtube. However, have tons of patience. It will improve.

ein will do this from time to time as well. it's funny because i agree and think he's trying to protect me. lol. we snap our fingers and tell him no in a stern voice. he usually always backs off then.
