I need info on ears that wont pop up.... Can they stay down forever? Are there any negative affects if they stay down? What are reasons they dont go up? How late can they develope? Avery doesnt like the tape. Help me Please! ( he is 13 weeks old)
We are in the process of trying to get our Cardi pup's ears to stand as well. He is 16 weeks old and from what various breeders have told me, and from what I have read, they should show signs of going up around 14 weeks and if not, then you should start taping. That being said, all dogs are different and some may not stand until much later. Our breeder had a female whose ears he taped on and off for 6 months before they stood. The ears can stay floppy, it's a genetic trait. One of my family member's owns my puppy's half brother (same Dad) and he has one floppy ear at one year of age so this tells me there is a chance that my puppy could end up with one or both floppy ears. He's showing quite a bit of lift though so I don't think that will be the case. You can ask your breeder if it could be a genetic factor with your puppy. Either way, it's not a big deal. You'll have to clean the ears anyway so it doesn't change anything except for their appearance. Give him time and I'm sure his ears will go up. :)
I don't know the answer to most of your questions... buuuut I do know they can stay down forever, but there aren't many negative side effects except that I believe they can get ear infections more often if they have down ears so I would be weary of that but otherwise it shouldn't matter. Good luck!
