Ellie is just about 8.5 months now and so well-behaved that I've started giving her free run of the apartment when I go to work. She's been a marvelous little angel, but she always has been.
The first week she was home, she tried to chew on the entertainment center and desk, but a firm "no" put a stop to that right away and she hasn't touched the furniture since. Then she tried to chew on cords, but again a "no" nipped it in the bud. She was housebroken in a week (at four months) and only cried in her crate the first day. She doesn't frap much and doesn't talk back. She's a dream.
For the past two weeks, I've crated her in the morning, came home for lunch and a walk, and left her out when I went back to work. Today, I left her out all day (with a walk at lunch). We'll see how she did when I get home, but I expect she'll have just taken another nap.

@rae My apartment is only about 880 sq. ft. so I didn't see the point in putting up gates, but if I had a larger house I would have started slower. I've noticed that Ellie usually just goes to sleep behind the couch or in her crate. Her toys are left untouched while I'm gone.
@Ludi She did great yesterday, so we'll keep to the schedule. Ellie has her quirks and bad habits like all dogs do, but I'd say, yes, I got incredibly lucky. Always take the runt of the litter! Both of my dogs have been runts and I think they're the perfect dogs for me.
that's awesome! we're still unsure about letting machete have free run of the house, but he's so well behaved. well he'd have free run of about a room and a half, when we do. lots of puppy gates and stuff.
I hope she's done well too! You sound like you're well on your way to having a perfect angel of a dog. If only every puppy was this easy this early! Ellie is exceptional. :-)
