It depends on you and your personality, and the personality of your dog.   We had one that was NOT happy being an only dog, but many dogs are happy being an only dog.  Just be forewarned:  having two is nice and with futuer dogs I will probably continue to have two dogs as long as it's practical BUT it can be hard to get in quality time with both of them if you like to do any performance events, unless you have all the necessary equipment in your back yard.

Oh....and about breaking your word to your husband....I'll just bet that after you get your poopster....he'll come around to become addicted, too, and you'll have another.  Resistance is Futile!

I say this so often but it bears repeating!  They're like potato chips....can't have just one....they are an addiction, really...but a very good one.

They are completely irresistable! We ended up with 2 in the house because my mom's golden retriever had passed on due to a cancer much too early (only 8) and she needed a dog of her own. Of course, Buddha was about 2 years old when Maddie came into the picture but not once regretted...
