Over the past 12 years or so, we have had the honor of sharing our home with three corgis. Jerry, who was very smart and stubborn. Lulu was an "alpha-female," and very athletic. And then there's Pippy, very docile (except when she gets excited), and well... not exceptionally bright, at least by comparison. However that doesn't prevent her from being ultra-adorable; in fact, I think it adds to the cuteness.
Every so often Pippy's comparative lack of brain power, and overabundance of cuteness, leads her to get into predicaments - we call them "fixes." So I will post the ones I find to be charming on our blog from time to time.
Pippy Fix #1 - The Marsh
Our favorite park - Bare Cove - happens contain some salt marshes (as well as a beach); it's situated on a small inlet. We generally walk the same route, which includes a stop by the beach. Now as soon as Pippy is within 50 yards of the beach, her pace picks up markedly, and she makes a beeline for the shore. She walks into the water (being a stumper, it doesn't take much to be in the "deep end"), turns around to make sure we're admiring her, and then beams. This is how Pippy cools herself off.
Now one day when we still had Jerry, we were traipsing around in a different part of the Park. We come upon a salt marsh, and Pippy gets excited, because she can go wading! Now anyone who's been to a beach will obviously know, that the shore slopes down into the water. However, with a marsh, it is more like a precipiece. So, Pippy enters the water, expecting her feet to hit the bottom, when WHOOSH, she falls right in, up to her neck, into the water, with such a state of shock on her face, as I've never seen before or since. Poor Pippy, and yet, so adorable.
Comment
Haha, very cute! I also have a smart and stubborn male, and a submissive but slightly daft female. One day I fear she will hurl herself off a cliff in pursuit of a squirrel. Speaking of squirrels, it took her months to figure out that they went UP the trees; she would circle madly at the bottom, sniffing the ground, occasionally poking at Jack as if to say "How 'bout you, did you see it? Where'd it go?"
It likewise took her ages to realize that cats go up; when we got our kitten, Maddie would do mad laps of the house, looking from side to side, desperate to find a cat who was perched on top of the sofa, watching her whiz past....
