Ralph is a big boy, but gosh, do thunderstorms scare the pants off of him! Upon hearing a peal of thunder the other day, he leapt up on the chaise longue and practically sat on my face, trembling like a little (okay, giant) leaf. Poor little (big) guy!

We just rescued a corgi this past weekend. He is a charming boy dog named Ralph. Unfortunately, he came to us considerably overweight, so he will need to be on a strict diet-and-exercise regimen. But he is such a sweetheart! Never barks, loves his pets.

'Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
The Dog had eaten all the candy
And was as sick as a louse
My Mom always used to repeat this from time to time, even before we had dogs. Well, it turned out to be true one year...
It was Pippy's first Christmas, and we had yet to learn of her incredible ability to jump about 5 times higher than her withers. So we figured it was perfectly fine to leave the Christmas cookies on the table over…

One summer afternoon, Jerry went missing, sending our family into an absolute panic. We called all our neighbors, we walked all around... no Jerry. Then about 8:00 at night we get a phone call. Well, it turns out Jerry was picked up by the dog catcher. We drive over to pick up Jerry. The animal…

Whenever I pull up weeds from my lawn (which is often), or overgrown pacasandra, Pippy is convinced I'm going to throw it and tries to chomp on it. She is always expecting me to throw it, as if it were a ball. Sad thing is, Pippy still hasn't learned to retrieve.
Another thing Pippy likes to do is "help" us out in the garden. However, she doesn't know much about gardening, and frequently sits on the flowers, cracking a big smile and looking satisfied with herself.
She can act…

Over the past 12 years or so, we have had the honor of sharing our home with three corgis. Jerry, who was very smart and stubborn. Lulu was an "alpha-female," and very athletic. And then there's Pippy, very docile (except when she gets excited), and well... not exceptionally bright, at least by comparison. However that doesn't prevent her from being ultra-adorable; in fact, I think it adds to the cuteness.
Every so often Pippy's comparative lack of brain power, and…

This past weekend we had our second yard sale of the summer. Pippy was a big help - she greeted everyone, and even stole some pats and belly rubs. It was during our yard sale, though, that I made an interesting discovery.
I've discovered that nothing is more exciting for Pippy then when people go through the front door. She always runs to greet whoever may be stopping in, and she always barks and bounces about as we depart for a walk. But this weekend we discovered it is just…
