I know that corgi puppies are the cutest things on the planet... but I have seen numerous corgis (and hundreds of other dogs) in my area that need to be rescued!! Please do not bring more dogs onto the planet when there are so many here without homes!

I spotted a post here about a Florida corgi needing a home -- well we went to the shelter and now have a wonderful, very loving male we named Toby. He's a giant -- a little over weight -- but just large. He was picked up by the shelter as a stray and had heart worms (which they treated). He's about 2 yrs old but never neutered. (His appt is set for Sat.) That's what I don't understand about people. We have many resources here in FL to spay and neuter pets -- I just don't understand -- and probably never will.
I must say this big guy is something. And, I'm loving hearing the pitter-patter (or thunder-thunder) of eight legs running up and down my stairs. Our family is thankful we found our new addition.

Thanks to Deb for her addition. In our family we tried rescue twice but with an Alzheimer's patient in the house, it's just not a very easy thing to do. We picked a corgi for size and friendliness and it's exactly what we expected and what we need for our family.

As I said in the other ongoing discussion on here, for us right now in our lives, buying from a breeder is best. But hopefully some day soon we are going to be able to get a bigger place with lots of room for all the animals and I am seriously hoping to get in contact with a rescue group. I would love to some day have some cardi's to go with our two pems and will look first with rescue groups. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who do help and support all those dogs needing someplace safe.

Thank you Debbie! You've explained it very well, rescue is an option, but not for everyone.

Thank you Debbie! We weighed out both options and we thought it would best for our lifestyle to have our first dog be a puppy. It forced us to read, learn, and problem solve so that one day if we want to we are better equipped owners with all situations. We are so happy with our decision. One day we will likely rescue a corgi but we felt it would be best to learn with a clean slate. As the eldest child of my parents.. there is usually a lot of practice on the first one

Yes, people should think before breeding their dogs. America has a pet overpopulation problem. Neuter your pets before they can add to the problem.
