We had beautiful weather this weekend and decided to take a hike out in Rattlesnake Canyon. No, we didn't see any snakes (did see their tracks across the trails, though). But on the way back out of the canyon, Sidney suddenly started rubbing his head against the ground and whimpering. We checked his ear out...we found a small cut on the tip but that was all. We figured that was the cause and, upon arriving at home, we cleaned the cut and put some salve on it. However, he kept shaking his head and holding his poor gigantic ear out to the side instead of straight up.
This morning he was no better, still shaking his poor head. Off to the vet we go, and they found an removed a big 'ol foxtail. Poor Sidney! They said it was their 11th foxtail removal of the day! They said this time of year is really bad for them, and to take walks where there aren't any foxtails.
Sidney is back to his old self and wants to warn his corgwyn bretheren to watch out for those stickery things. I think I need to find ear guards for him!
*Edited to add: It was a cheat grass burr, not a foxtail. Thanks, John!
