We have had our beautiful corgi mix for two months and we wonder how we managed without her! It has been so hot and she is shedding heavily which I understand is normal. No problem...she is worth the extra vacuum cleaner bags! I am concerned though that she is shedding too much. Her formerly gorgeous tail is very scraggly...is this normal? She is a rescue dog...she was spayed just a week before we brought her home. She seems happy and otherwise healthy...

Wow! Thank you for all the comments - puts my mind at ease! Princess is not scratching and her skin looks clear. She is playful and affectionate and seems to eat well. We are feeding her Innova. I know nothing about dog food but a web site gave Innova a good rating and it was in our budget and she seems to like it. I am going to look for a "furminator" today :)

I never heard of a Corgi till I found Princess and now I can't imagine having any other dog...she is adorable and with the sweetest disposition...and her short little sturdy legs just make me smile all the time. Oh...the other thing is that she had pups just three months before we adopted her...then the week before we adopted her she was spayed...so all that might affect her shedding.

I also thought it could be due to the recent spaying...or maybe it's just her time to blow her coat....they always remind me of a fox with mange(ok never saw this) the way the fur hangs and falls out in different places at different times...I also sit outside and just let the wind blow the hair away...brushing a couple times a day really helps and a few of mine have thicker coats than others. What are you feeding her...if she was a rescue maybe a better food will also help...not that this will change their bi yearly blows!

Hi! Females blow coat in relation to their hormone cycles more so than the weather. Since she was recently spayed, her hormones are changed and she may have a very heavy shed. When we met Jack's mother when the pups were 6 weeks old, she looked like a skinned rat, the poor thing, due to a post-partum blown coat.

If the underlying skin looks health (not scaly, raw, no sores) than I would not worry too much. If she starts getting bald spots or scratching like mad, then check with your vet.

When their coats start to "blow" they can get this sort of scraggly look as the hair is coming out in clumps. Ginny seems to have two really major sheds throughout the year. We bought the furminator.... and we never looked back. A really good furminator session in the backyard helps cut down on the fluff floating around in the house!
