It has now been a week since we brought Sidney home from his Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery for hip dysplasia.

He's been a very good patient. He's confined to a pen in the living room although we take him outside several times a day to go potty, and he's got to wear that awful collar to keep him from bothering his incision. Rather than the e-collar, we use a pro-collar. It looks like an inflated blue toilet seat, but it seems to be much more comfortable and easier to move around with.

There are a few days per week he'd be home all alone, but luckily my employer has allowed me to bring Sidney to the lab. Sidney seems very happy to come to work with me.

These first two photos are from Monday, his first day at work. In the second photo you can see Daisy the beagle in the background. She belongs to my co-worker and gets to come to work every day.

This photo is from Wednesday. Since I was able to watch him constantly, I left his pro-collar off, and he never bothered his incision.

His sutures will come out on Friday the 24th. It seems like such a long time! His pain meds run out on Friday - that will be 10 days. I'm a little worried about them just stopping suddenly like that! I hope he won't be hurting too much.

He's got a great appetite and wants to chase the cat. I look forward to after the 24th when he can start hydrotherapy and start going on walks again.

Hope Sid's doing OK. Do let us know how the rehab goes. I was so sad to hear he was hurt.

It was suggested to me to chop the last 4 pills in half and taper off that way. He's doing great on half-dose now, so I think he'll be fine :)
We are both looking forward to suture removal and no more innertube necklace. 6 more days!

maybe they will give you more pain meds so that you can taper, just like they do in humans! It would make sense, tell them that a pharmacy tech suggested it!

And here I'd thought "Take Your Dog to Work Day" was some kind of a joke.
I think it is very cook, and wise, of employers to recognize how important this sort of thing can be to people, especially when a family member is sick.
Sid looks like such a dude.

He looks almost proud of his new blue collar! That thing looks so much more pleasant than the "cone of shame". I'm glad he is doing so well, and I hope and pray he continues to do so.

Glad to hear that Sidney is recovering nicely. He looks great and super happy (even with the collar on). Here's to a speedy recovery!

In that bottom pic, with no collar, he looks like he's saying, "Where's that secretary with my mid-day work files and cookies?" Very professional. Bertie and Ethel say, way to go and may your steady improvement continue nonstop! Maybe the vet can help you taper the pills?
