Somebody has seperation anxiety....

My neigbours Beagle to be exact. That dog's got pipes, and has been howling off and on for the last 7 hours. They’ve got their windows open and you can hear it clear as day. He'll stop for a few minutes, and then start right back up again. Holy-moly that guy's got stamina, and his howling is causing other dogs in the neigbourhood to howl. We've got a whole chorus going on. Casey keeps looking at me like "what in gods name is going on?"

Haha I knew someone else who has cats that bother them. But only around night time.

My father raised beagles. They are bred to howl and hunt in packs. That equals a dog that is noisy and like to be with others. As with our corgis it pays to know what you are getting into when you get a dog. Lots and lots of excersise is a must for a beagle. Sorry it is your neighbor!

Sam, that's a perfect likeness to my neighbours dog! All day this guy's been doing it, this slow, drawn out, mournful howl. It sounds like he's slowing dying of a gut wound or something.

He's about two years old, maybe two and a half. It doesn't surprise me in the least, they don't exercise him at all. They just throw him in the backyard, where he's incredibly destructive and annoying. He barks and howl's like crazy out there too, but I never heard him do it while they were gone until today.

Tell me about it. My sister just got a beagle pup (pocket beagle pup) this weekend, and he has major separation anxiety to (but she lives in Red Deer so can't be hers). She was visiting this weekend and my corgi had no clue what to make of the noise. We have to watch him this weekend as well (not look forward to it). And she has been telling me how crazy it has been, and how bad she feels for her neighbors. Is this a new pup beagle next door? If so I wonder if it is from the same litter, as my sister got her from someone in Sherwood Park. It doesn't help hers has no interest in toys, chews or anything but curling up in your arms/lap or chasing you around. So it's not like she can easily preoccupy his mind either while she is gone.

oh my.... not a fan huh? Just kidding, it can get really annoying. Unfortunately beagles are hardwired to howl :) it's part of the hunting instinct, kinda like corgi's herding instinct, beagles let their owners know where they are by howling / barking / baying, like spotting a fox...etc.
