The Journey to Becoming a Corgi Mom - Part 2

Well.  Apparently the best way to find a corgi pup is to blog about it!  Here I am, about 1 week from my first-ever blog post, and I'm getting ready to pick out a corgi puppy.  Words cannot possibly express how excited I am!  I'm simply waiting on the breeder's recommendation for me and then I can confirm her choice and put down my deposit!

How did I manage to find a pup?  Persistence and pure chance!  I've been running daily searches through the breed websites (PWCCA and the regional clubs) as well as good 'ol Google.  After spending months speaking with good breeders, I felt confident in my ability to spot a good breeder amongst the sea of search results that Google spits out.  After all, not all breeders belong to the clubs.

Around 40 pages into the results, I struck gold!  Female pups:  check.  Red/white coloring:  check.  Temperament I'm looking for:  2 of the 3 pups, check.  Health guarantee and well socialized:  check and check!  The pups even have a blaze up the nose, which I had secretly been hoping for.

My mind has gone into overdrive thinking of all the things I need to get for our new little addition.  Luckily my house is already baby-proofed, so there's very little that needs to be done to puppy-proof it as well.  This pup may very well be the last addition to our family, so there will be much doting and spoiling going on.  ;)

I still haven't settled on a name, but I'm rather fond of Ellie so far.  I had originally wanted Bailey, but then I saw that there are a lot of Baileys out there.  Perhaps not as many as there are named Bella, but it's close!  Does anyone here have suggestions?  I'm rather fond of traditional, girly names.  Heck, as a little girl I named my three favorite dolls Abigail, Emily, and Sarah.

Lots of updates (and pictures!) will probably be following this post over the next month (the pups are only about 3 weeks old right now), but I'll leave you all with the exclamation of joy that my husband heard once I learned I would be getting a puppy.

"EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Thanks!  We're picking her up Friday (less than 48 hours from now, yay!) and have settled on the name Ellie.  If another name suits her better after we have her home then we'll change it, but otherwise she's going to be my little Ellie girl.  Of course, I still have to figure out what her AKC name will be!

I like the name Carlie, Maddi, Suzi, Abbey, Fergie oh and Lilly.

I also like the name Bailey, Lance has a buddy named Bailey. I have a co-worker who had a female corgi named Bailey.

Congrats, so exciting, not too much time left either, I can't believe I missed this post!!  Looking forward to hearing stories, seeing pics and hearing what name you decide on.

Haha, you're better at brainstorming names than I am.  :P  Friends like to tease me when I play online games because I'll sometimes spend 3 hours just trying to think of a good name for one of my characters, hehe.

Bryn and Tilly are definitely going on the list!  Thanks for the ideas!  Now I just have to continue to resist the urge to e-mail the breeder every 5 minutes to see what my little girl is up to!

Suzie, Dolly, Delta (if she had a perfect white triangle under her jaw or something-- too cute!), Hailey (similar to Bailey)... I'll keep thinking hehe.

Oh I love the name Ellie! Well you have a great name yourself and it looks like you have the same tenancy as I do (liking dog names that end with "ie/y"). One of my all time favorites for a girl is Fergie. I also like Milly, Tegan, Blair, Gwen, Bryn, Barbie (has to fit the coat and personality), Dixie (my long hair chihuahua's name-- I got her when I moved back to Texas 6 years ago, I thought it suited a southern belle), Annie, June (cute name since you will be getting her in June), Betsy, Bobbi, Fiona, Gaby or Gabbie, Heidi, Catie, Carlie, Maddi, Marcie, Tilly, Sandy... hmm I could keep going! I love thinking of names!

Oh, Penny might be a good one.  I'll have to add that to the list.  :)

@ Jane - Yeah, I don't ever have a single name picked out ahead of time.  Poor Yuki spent almost two weeks without a name because none of the ones I had liked really fit him well!

I came up with Seanna.  I looked on the web for female Welsh names, and found Seanna--it means "God's grace".  I am very excited for you!  Corgi's are awesome dogs, and so much fun!  And nothing is cuter than a corgi puppy!  Congrats--I look forward to seeing pictures and following your new adventures...

Traditional?  How about Penelope, Penny for short?
