I had to take care of my mom and stepfather, as mom does not drive and stepdad is sick. Long story. My husband called me last night to say that Trixie had a bought of diarrhea. I thought it was just stress from me being gone pretty much all week(minus a few hours here and there) and the addition of some new food. Yes, I took the time to slowly mix it so she could acclimate...anyway, this morning I got a call from him at 0600, to tell me she just wasn't herself. She refused her food and water, was lethargic and just seemed out of it. I asked a million and one questions and thought he should keep a close eye until she can be seen by the vet. As it turns out, my baby has gastroenteritis...she vomited some foamy saliva, and refused food(not like a corgi) and had diarrhea that had traces of blood and was very foul in odor. We freaked out because we were thinking, " Oh my God, parvo". And though we took necessary precautions in vaccinating her, we are aware that there may be different strains and may not be immune to all of them...anyway, it was not parvo thankfully! She was sent home on antibiotics and antiemetics and anti-diarrheals...no fun for a fuzzy butt! She is feeling a little better and you could just image my joy when she: ate all of her dinner; didn't vomit; chased the cats and played like normal; had a normal looking/smelling stool and was close to her energy level.
With everything I have going on currently, I am exhausted just by school and taking care of my parents, in addition to taking care of our place/lives. I was so worried and thought of so many horrible things that most of us think of, that I was in tears at the thought that this could be more malevolent than I thought.
I am grateful that we have been blessed with such a wonderful puppy, who in her own way was able to tell us that she was sick. I am grateful that we addressed the situation when we did and the vet that kept her from getting worse.
I don't know if she was exposed to a sick dog or what; because she is unable to get to anything poison wise or the cat stuff because of baby gates, closed doors and security on cabinets that are within reach. We are puppy proofed. I am just hoping that she gets over it quickly and that we never have to deal with this again. I am sure Trixie's butt and bowels agree...

Thank you for the thoughts. Well, she certainly is much better! Back to her old self, appetite, energy and all! She really is our bundle of joy and I would be absolutely devastated if it had gotten any worse.

Glad to hear Trixie is doing better. One of my Bassetts got the bug last year and almost lost her. It is so scary, My Belle is a little thing and seldom eats, so she is small so far. But she is a joy to have. Everybody needs a Corgi they are so much fun.

Wow...on top of everything you have going on, what a worry to have! I'm glad Trixie is doing better! I know how you feel. My Jack suddenly got super skinny (unlike a Corgi) and we were freaking out. The vet said he had a parasite, Giardia which is common and very treatable. Jack took his meds and is better now. Gained 2 pounds, woo hoo!

I'm so glad it was a reasonably simple fix! Wow, I can imagine how worried and scared you both were. Poor little Trixie. Funny how we get so excited over healthy-looking poops, huh?
