Yesterday was Faye's first thunderstorm and she was so brave! I was at work for the beginning of it but my boyfriend said she jumped at the first one, then just went right along playing like nothing was wrong. When I got home I brought her down for a walk and she was so distracted, but eventually did her business. There was one loud clap of thunder that made her run around us in circles. Then she looked up at me with eyes that said "how am I supposed to feel?" When she saw how brave we were being she settled down and her tail started flying high again. I can't even believe how smart she is! She is my first dog and I never expected her to grasp things as quickly as she has. I'm sure I'm cursing myself now and next week she will turn into a little terror!

We don't get much thunder here in the Pacific Northwest -- I miss it so, grew up in the midwest. Gwynnie is phobic about loud reports: gunshots, backfire, firecrackers; thunder can actually make her bolt. She turns into a totally different animal. So I took Al hiking this weekend, even though it was her turn. Unusual forecast: chance of thunderstorms.
It delivered. Hooray for National Weather Service. Both days, lightning kept us off 3 summits. Wasn't like an Ohio cloudburst, but it was dramatic: CLOSE strikes, LOUD thunder. We rarely get this in the Cascades. Poor Gwynnie would've been trembling like an unbalanced washing machine. Al was just, "Hey. Whuzzat?"
AND: new camera. Rainbow shot! Stay tuned.
