To Keep Him a Stud or to Not Keep Him a Stud...

That is the question!

My male Corgi, at 8 months old, is already acting pretty stud-like. I eventually wanted to get a puppy out of him so I have one of his offspring. BUT he has a tendency to mark his territory... in the house too. And when around some female dogs he gets all giddy and excited. He listens well, and is such a love bug but...

Should I just go ahead and do myself a favor and get him neutered?

Beth - The picture is of my female Corgi, his sister. Yes I agree. The more I thought about doing it, it just wouldn't be fair to him. Yeah he's a manly little guy, and he will probably be the same way.

My next question, How do I find a good vet?! I just moved to a new state. Any good places for reviews, etc?

Your Corgi is gorgeous.  IMO, it's very frustrating for dogs who will never be allowed to breed to be left intact.  And it can be hard to find a girlfriend for your intact dog if you don't have any titles on him;  anyone who IS interested is not likely to be a reputable breeder.  SO either focus on titling your dog in some sports or conformation, or neuter him.   That said, marking is a training issue and you need to work on that now; neutering him won't help if the behaviror is already ingrained.  And my male who was neutered at 6 months is still very, very interested in the ladies (and sometimes in the gentlement, much to my chagrin).

I love my dog. I think he has a fabulous personality, gorgeous markings, sound health & confirmation. I had him neutered at 8mos. I don't regret that decision one bit.

Sam, what a great chart! This is what I'm going to show to all the people who say they are thinking about breeding their dogs. Looks way more convincing than trying to explain

I actually called and almost have the schedule set up for him. I think it's all emotional... When he's gone I want his kids. I was there for mama dog throughout her pregnancy... I wasnt happy she was pregnant at the time because we were inexperienced people, and I was so scared of something happening to her during pregnancy. It wasn't my choice, but wouldn't trade my babies for ANYTHING! All went well, obviously but that stress is un needed. The best thing is to get him cut. Didn't mean to cause anyone to get on their soapbox LOL I just needed reassurance. I'm also nervous to have him and his sister put under anesthesia too because I just moved to a new state and don't know the vets! Thank you again for the reassurance.
