Toby was a fit/healthy little puppy when she joined my family.
She used to run around a lot everyday.
After living with us for a year, she started gaining weight and wasn't really active most of the time.
When I took her out for a walk, she would sit and rest after walking for less than 200 meters.
Her ideal body weight is 25 lbs, but her peak weight was 37 lbs.
Later on, I realized that her obesity was partially related to her dog food.
I have been feeding her with 'Purina ONE Adult Lamb and Rice' since Toby was one years old, and the food was quite fatty (Toby preferred lamb over any other meat).
Two weeks ago, I changed Toby's dog food to 'Nutro Natural Choice for Overweight, Less Active Dogs' (another lamb and rice meal).
The outcome was good. Toby lost 2 lbs in just two weeks!
She now weights 33.5 lbs and is more active during the day. :)

I know Duncan is huge,...he has lost a few pounds. My husband has almost (notice, the almost) quit giving them table scraps. I told him that if he didn't quit, Duncan could injure his back and end up in a wheelchair for dogs. As for as exercise, we try the best we can. I have health issues in which a lot of walking has become an issue. I've been getting Duncan to play fetch about 3 to 4 times a day when I'm not working. Same for my husband. He works nights and sleeps days, but he plays fetch about 3 times a day with Duncan. They get a half a cup of kibble a day, with just 2 Tbs. of canned food. If Chloe doesn't eat her food in 15-20 minutes, it gets taken off the floor. That way, Mr. Piggy doesn't run over and scarf it down. That has probably the main reason he has lost weight. Not eating his AND Chloe's food. The last time he was weighed, about 3 months ago, he had lost 3 pounds in about a month. So, it's going to be a slow process.

Yes Debbie, you are right. Let me re-word my entry.
Toby used to and is still having a cup of dog food each day.

D. Campbell, you are right. Perhaps Toby needs more exercise when she is on Purina ONE and of course cutting down on treats will help.

Honey Angel, I gave Toby greenies sometimes and she loves it. Honey is a very cute corgi. I love her costumes.

Lou Ann Lemaster, 46 pounds is huge. Duncan really needs to be on diet. My dad gives Toby table scraps too. Two years ago, I even had the Vet called my dad to warn him not to feed Toby with human food. We were issued a warning letter by the Vet that time.

I am working on Duncan and trying to get his weight down. He is a chow hound, and if Chloe didn't eat all of her food, he'd run over and scarf it down right, before he eats his. Chloe is a nibbler, which made it rough. So, I started mixing a little canned food with their dry. This makes Chloe eat hers right away most of the time, so he has been getting less.
My husband is also bad about giving them table scraps. His habit is to give them each the last bite of whatever he is eating. I'll know in a couple of weeks how well it's going when Duncan goes for his rabies shot. His last visit, he had lost about 3 pounds. He was up to about 46 pounds!!!! He's a big corgi, and I could still barely see a waistline, I just didn't realize that he had gotten so big.
