Has anyone tried Trifexis. What are the thoughts out there on it? My vet recommended it. They are currently on Heartgard and Comfortis. It would be great if I could give only one pill to them. They always seem a little down after taking their meds. I am worried on whether or not it really works for heartworm. Several years ago I had a dog that the vet put on Revolution, at that time it was the new rage on an all in one. My poor chow mix ended up with heartworm. After that, the vet said that they had had a few problems with that happening even thought the meds were taken regularly. We have an almost year round mosquito population here in Florida so this worries me. Please let me know your thoughts.

As I understand it, there is a new 'strain' of heartworms that some preventative does not work on. You might talk to your vet about that. We have stuck with Heartgard and Frontline because our worst problem here is ticks. Our Newfie got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, even WITH Frontline because we had such a wet spring one year.
I didn't think Trifexis was supposed to be effective for ticks (?) I just switched to it from a topical since Chewey spends so much time in the water. It seems to be working as well but I've only been using it for a couple months now (and it's not summer).
My Cocosette takes Trifexis too. So far no problems, but like Emily and Scout, I've had to supplement with a tick collar (bought at the vet's office) during the summer months. Especially important since we spend a lot of time at the lake and Cocosette loves to root around in the brush.
Trifexis works great for Scout. I don't think it is 100% effective on ticks as I have found a couple on her, but it may help keep the tick # down. She's never had heartworm, but I trrust it. Just make sure they eat a meal with it or they will throw up.
I have to crush Scout's and mix it with her food. I think it tasted bad to her.
