Luna now has a few more commands in her repertoire: sit, down, leave it, the touch game, and we're working still on stay. As of the 18th we have now had 4 sessions of Puppy Kindergarten and she is enjoying those classes, to say the least. Our trainer thinks she might do well in the herding classes they offer up in Escondido - I may ask her for more information about that next class.
That same day we went to Carlsbad for their Pups on Parade festivities. Luna got to meet Sidney, a fellow corgi from the meetup group we'll be going to monthly meetups at dogparks with - she was really excited to play with him! Plus, I thought it was really cool for me to see her actually play with another corgi (that wasn't a littermate). Unfortunately they were the only two corgis there, but nonetheless it was all good as Luna won a big basket in the raffle that included a new dog bed, some all natural dog food, plus gift certificates for a photo session and a dog whisperer, amongst other things. We also took another picture with Santa - this one a family shot. Plus we took a multitude of our own pictures, especially ones with Luna & Sidney:
On this past Tuesday she learned how to jump up on the couch, something she possibly learned while on her playdate with Billie on Monday. This was discovered because she was trying to chase Misty. Luna hasn't attempted to do it again since, but we know she is capable of it now. She also really does love to see what Misty is up to - and Misty tolerates her, but mostly just ignores her.
Speaking of Misty - Misty had her vet visit to check on her health and the status of her hyperthyroidism. My main concern was finding out the underlying cause for her drastic weight loss; as of this visit she now weighs 4.7 lbs. Thankfully her blood and fecal tests all came out normal - except for her thyroid levels. They were elevated again - so she now is taking her medication twice a day and hopefully this is what is behind her being so light.
The vet wants to recheck her in a few weeks to make sure that this is an effective treatment and we don't need to dig deeper. The fact is though that she is 14.5 years old though, and I know that it's going to get a little scary health-wise with her from now on. It's a little daunting to think that I've had that little cat for more that half of my existence, so to think that something could happen to her is a little unfathomable at times. I know, because of River & Suerte too, what it is like to lose a pet - but it'll be different when it's Misty. Heck, I drove with that cat from San Diego to Davis with her meowing the entire way more than once - I must love her.

Cute babies! Wish my kitties would be more tolerant of my dogs like Misty seems to be with Luna. Sorry about Misty; I know what you're going through. I had a cat with hyperthyroidism who took two pills a day for years. He stopped losing weight on the meds and felt much better. He was 18 y/o when his kidneys finally got the best of him. I still have his 20 y/o mama.
Hang in there; Misty is comparatively young and could do quite well with the medicine and a good diet.
Adorable!!
Really love the pictures! Luna is a beautiful corgi, I can't believe how big she is getting! Keep posting the great pics. Merry Christmas!!
Strangely I only brought $5 with me - so it was fortuitous that I happened to have it and we won. She loves it already - lounging on the blanket part that spreads off the edge. It's REALLY soft, so I think she liked the sensation.
That would be great if you could give me information on that herding facility - I really think that would be fun to do with her when she's a little bit bigger.
Yea, with Misty - she was always so dainty, always within 5.5 to 6.5 lbs, so for her to drop so low was very noticeable. Luna is learning how to behave around her as Misty is making sure to correct her, as am I, and they tend to be supervised when together. I'm also really careful of reminding my nieces and nephews to be careful with her because she is so old and delicate - and remove her when they don't seem to be remembering that.
Hopefully all this rain won't cancel the next meetup and we'll see you there. I'll keep an eye out for any North County mini ones as well.
Krystle, that photo at the poinsettias came out great! Congrats again on the gift basket! I didn't think to bring cash to the event...I love entering raffles, especially when the crowd is light. Does Luna love the new bed?
I could tell from watching her that her training is going well. She is so well behaved and friendly! Sidney has been to the herding facility in Escondido a couple of times to run with "his sheepies" so if you want any info or for me to contact Terry Parrish for you, please let me know.
I'm sorry about Misty. My Hamilton is 17 and has been all fur and bones for almost a year now. We had discussed taking him in for tests, but thought at his age the stress of a vet trip may just be too much. He seems happy, he purrs and eats like a horse. He's just so skinny, but I know as kitties age then lose the ability to absorb nutrients from their food. I'm so glad that all three dogs are very respectful of Hammie and are gentle in their interactions with him.
Hopefully we'll see you around the dog park one day!
