Not for the exercise, not for the views.
There are picnics at the top. And when one group finishes, the next group will arrive. With more food.
It's amazing what a corgi remembers from one year to the next. We haven't don't this trail since last summer, but he knew about a half mile from the summitt what to expect. With great anticipation, my little dog who is content to follow by my heels strained on his leash for the final push to the top. I only see him this happy when it is dinner time or frisby time.
He brings joy to the other hikers laboring up the trail too. Everyone smiles when they see a corgi hiking. My poor other dog is much more social, but alas, she is only a yellow lab mix and must be content with playing second fiddle to shorty.

I'm amazed at how well they remember details of the route. Yesterday, we were on an unofficial trail with many windfall obstacles. Around two of these, I constructed a detour with my pruning saw. They were logs a corgi could easily pass under, a person could not. On the return, Al went straight for the detours, even though he might easily have followed the trail. On the way in, I'd made a routefinding error on the snow, so our exit did not follow our entry route exactly, but on the way out, Al kept to our entry route and seemed quite confused when I insisted on going a different way. Perhaps they're following scent, or footprints in the snow?
