Oh my gosh, that is cute to watch them work out their little playtime together. They do seem to have a sincere interest in getting along.
I saved old shoes for the potential puppy that I might get. Before Randy had a companion, he did a good deal of shoe slaying.
@Jane, She seems to continue to get better and better. Randy had a hot spell this afternoon and I doled out ice. She tried some cubes and look at it and him as if to say, " What is wrong with you, these aren't good"!
Well, I am so glad that Reese found you. Wow, she has been through alot as well as you, glad to hear she is wanting to play a bit more now. No problem, for the long story, talk as much as you need to. :)
Lance is definately initiating play more with Tucker, and I think it confuses Tucker now.
@ Natalie, Reese is the floppy eared one. I got her last Sept. because Randy desperately needed canine company. The Rescue agency called her a corgi mix (basset) and I do think there is corgi since she has the shoulder parts of the faire saddle. She looked OK except she had an inguinal hernia. The day after we got home I found blood on the floor, collected it and went off to the vet. That led to a gradual identification of various infections starting with hookworm, ear, urinary tract and ultimately heartworm. I learned at the time of the hookworm visit that she had a heart murmur. It took me another month to have the ear infect and then realize that she must have a UTI and that the murmur was probably heart worms. Unfortunately, I was right. I talked to one of the vets that I have a long experience with and we treated ear and UTI in the usual way. For the heartworm, I indicated that I wanted to used a "long" term treatment. The regular drug was in short supply and is very toxic (+expensive). I spent a lot of time on the internet and planned a program which included an uncommom preventative that does not kill a lot of adult worms. Then give her an antibiotic that kills a parasite that infects the worms and normally makes then healthier/meaner. The worms are weakened and some die, so we do that 1 wk a month and do a bunch of natural worm killing stuff and supplements to help her survive the worms deaths. (I am a microbiologists and have been involved in medical training so it was easier for me to research and carry out). By about 3.5 mo. later she had gained a lot of weight and that hernia got "bigger" so I took her to see that same vet to see if she was healthy enough for surgery. He could not hear her murmur and was very pleased with her appearance so 2 weeks later, he repaired that hernia. She has recovered well but we cut out the antibiotic for the worm parasite and went easy on her treatments. She is well recovered and just started to play more. She was playing some before the surgery but is just getting going again. I hope she continues to become more active as Randy would love to play more. I think the poor baby as had a real hard time as you can tell she once was someone's baby and she has spent about 14 mo. in some different rescue agencies. The woman at the last one told me that the dogs her size picked on her and she had to be put in with smaller ones. Well!! She was terribly sick and couldn't defend herself. I think they fattened her up since I communicated with them for about 3 weeks before getting her. She is a very good girl but we did have control issues but have worked them out. Sorry for the long story, it frustrates me and I grip some. Thanks for asking.
awww, which one is Reese? I didn't know Reese was sick, whats wrong? I know what joy it is to see them play after not feeling well, such a good feeling.
@It does make me happy but she doesn't do much. I'm thinking of walking her just a short distance. We never
did one of those big work ups to define her disease so I only know she was really sick. She does run around the house a little more but not the yard.
Awwwwww! It must make you so happy to see her playing!
