John, I think that it might take a little time but I think that the instincts would come through and a new dog would jump right in. Might have to have dental insurance on the newbies, just noticed the other day that Joey is missing a lower canine tooth. Hasn't slowed him down any with biting cows. Hank has just done what his parents do with no real training, but now we are training him some on a leash, he wants to chase when he does not need to and gets to much into biting noses and turning the cows around. Not to worry about tobacco stains, we operate in a tobacco free environment......... I need to video them working cows in the chute this weekend, we have to run yearling heifers through for a vaccination

You could probably pick up some extra cash running a dude ranch for some of us city slickers' blow-dried pampered pooches.
I wonder what would happen if you put one greenhorn city corgi in with your bunch -- would it learn the ropes by imitation? Or would it require deliberate training to become worth its pay?
In your disclaimer, you'd be advised to include something about "...not responsible for tobacco stains on the rug after your pet's return..."

thanks for the comments, we will be working cattle quite often for awhile now so I will have to video some more. We had ten of the neighbors cattle get in with ours so I gathered them up and put them in the corral. The neighbor came to get them and when I put the short legs on his cows to load them in the trailer he couldn't believe it. The dogs had them in the trailer in a flash and he said "I thought those were pets not cow dogs". Showed him what the little big dogs can do.

Man, you guys totally rock! To witness what these fabulous herders are bred to do is wonderful. Please continue to make movies of your group. Mine only have sheep - so sad, so sorry! All the best from Williamsburg, VA: Nancy (Bear, Tasha and Linus) Tasha adds: Where can I get me some of those big things to herd!!!

Gwynn and Al are so jealous. They're swaggering around in waking cowboy fantasies. They're pretending they're wearing Stetsons. They want some of those big things to chase. And they're wondering why the sky is that funny blue color.

I'm sending this to everyone who's looked at me funny when I told them "they were bred to herd cattle." :D Thanks!
