Terminus of the Everett & Monte Cristo RR. This turntable -- to reverse the locomotive -- was built about 1894. It still turns, making this wonderful sound, like a hippopotamus having a tooth extracted. Gwynnie, a Gandy dancer in a previous incarnation, supervises.
Deep in the west-central Cascade mountains, it's a 4-mile ride on a washed-out road to get here.
