I've been a silent lurker for awhile, not because Ellie gives me nothing to talk about, but because I've settled into my role as a Corgi parent and handle things as they come up with minimal panicking. I'm quick to take Ellie to the vet, even the emergency vet once, so I get most of the advice I need straight from him. I came online today and read some posts about Corgis who hate heat, and it reminded me of the value of participating more actively in this community.

Ellie has been going through some behavior changes recently, as she always does around this time of year because of the heat. Suddenly my girl hates her walks, retreats to the bathroom to nap all the time, and grumbles when I try to play. (This is on top of an eye irritation she's getting drops for.) It's been an overwhelming week. I've been jumping at shadows and worrying myself sick about her. And then I read about how many other Corgis hate heat and their behaviors during summer and I've found a little bit of comfort.

Abbey does not tolerate the heat very well either. Living in Mississippi not only is it Hot...but HUMID. Usually when we let Abbey for ply or walks it is early in the am or late evening. She is no problem to keep inside where it is cool. We don't  get a lot of snow  here, but when it does snow she loves to dig tunnels in it and lie in them. Good luck with Ellie.

Thank you for the replies and words of encouragement. Yes, we do have A/C and I keep it fairly cool because I don't tolerate heat well either. All of Ellie's favorite spots are below air vents.

Our little Kallie definitely does not like the heat.  What you describe is her as well.  In the summer, she likes to curl around the base of the toilet as I think it feels cooler to her.  Also, that downstairs bathroom is a small half-bath and the AC vent blows in that room much stronger than some of the other rooms.  That makes the toilet base seem quite cool and I think she finds it comforting after a walk in the outdoor heat.

Yes, that is part of why this is better than the facebook groups. Less judgement and more genuine caring. When its really hot i like to take my corgis swimming . Of course i live in Michigan and we dont get as much deadly hot weather as much of the country and our lakes are very cool usually.

That is one of the positives of a forum like this.  Be it dogs, cats, children, etc.  We pick up little bits and pieces of the lives of others with their Corgi's, etc.  While we learn most along the way of trial and error, it sometimes helps to see that others are experiencing similar things.  Also, as one becomes a long-term dog or cat parent, they sometimes have hints to pass along.
