Adopting our corgi boy this Sat. All input welcome!

We've been considering a second dog for a few months. Zeroed in on corgi breed, and a week ago made a step toward seeking out one. With the help of the local Rescue Agent we located our boy that's only 2.5h away from us.

We are very excited about the new addition to the family. We'll be picking him up this Saturday. Lots of homework has been done, but I am always soliciting valuable input.

About him (we are still deciding on the name):

10 months old male
bought at the mall's pet store
very active
not neutered (vet's appointment scheduled on Mon.).
has fleas (and probably tapeworms)
housebroken (as the current owner said)
rambunctious

About us:

Family with 8 and 12 year-old daughters
2-story spacious house with fenced-in back yard
Currently have 8 year-old mild-tempered, well-trained, spayed, and flea-free chihuahua :)
I am a stay-at-home mom
We all grew up with family dogs

This is our 1st corgi. We want to be able to make this guy's transition into our family as smooth as possible. I am a bit concerned with the flea problem, but already got some good advice on that. I wanted to introduce my current dog to him, but am not sure if it's a good idea because of the fleas.....

He's also not neutered yet. Not sure about his aggression level. He has not been abused, just neglected. Not enough time and attention has been given to him. I don't want to overstep my boundaries with too much unwanted affection....if that makes sense.

Is using the crate a good idea in his new home? At least for the 1st week or so?

In other words, what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Your boy is adorable, i think Carly is going to be small as well. That's what the vet told me anyway.. Shes 9months old and 20lbs. So far she not a big eater, but do i understand correctly they have huge appetites?

Today is the big day! Congrats! Also, I REALLY recommend crate training. Guinness is awesome at it! He was 8 wks. old when we brought him home, and he whined a lot! The next day, he was completely fine! Good luck, and have tons of fun!

Thanx, y'all. Just bought Capstar from PETCO.

Oh, I think you can get it from petco.com too.

It was less expensive from the vet, though. I bought a pack of 6 for $20.

Do you know if I can get Capstar from a store, and not from a vet.

He's adorable! When we first brought Sidney home, we put him in a separate room and used a baby gate from the children's world secondhand store. That way our two other dogs could see and smell him but they could not interact yet. We sat next to the gate, talked calmly with all three dogs and shared some treats, making sure all dogs could see we were sharing. There was some raised hackles and growls at first, but they stopped really quickly and now everyone gets along great.

Maybe you could give him a Capstar tablet before he comes into your home. It will kill all fleas within 30 minutes. Not sure if it kills eggs, so you might have to give another later.

Good luck and congratulations on your beautiful addition!

As I just mentioned to someone else on here about bringing home a new puppy, in my experience with KC and getting her to mind and training her, lots of treats are a must. And she only likes certain ones and if you don't have that one in your hand she just cocks her head and looks at you like i don't think so. So I would recomend finding what he likes and keeping plenty in stock to use for training him.
