Jax is growing up to be such a lovely little boy. I've always wanted a companion for him, but felt like the time hasn't been right until now. I can finally happily say that he's housebroken (other than the occasional accidents when we couldn't open the door for him in time) and even whines/scratches at the door just to make a tiny tinkle! He's been introduced to big dogs, small dogs, people of all shapes and sizes, and even the girls at his doggy daycare think he's the most sociable and well-behaved puppy they've seen in a long time. I'm so proud of him!

So now I'm excited to say that I'd like to adopt another addition to our family instead of buying another pup. I know that there's rescues out there that need all the love they can get, and I'm prepared to give them just that! Anyone have current information on rescues out in California? I've seen a couple listings here and there on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet, and luckily the majority of them have been rehomed by the time I get to their listing :) Highly prefer a young (not puppy) to adult, so please let me know!

Thanks much <3

Hi Ash, how old is Jax now? You can check out the FAQ on "Should I get another corgi", do an honest financial assessment (e.g.:3K emergency vet fund) , then go from there.

Oh boy, did you see Guy and Ruth's blog about having to rehome their one year old?  They live in San Diego!  As Sam says, assess your situation carefully before you bring someone else aboard.  Good luck!

As Sam said, how old is Jax? Often when you adopt a new dog and the other is still very young you can have a lot of regression in their training, so you end up having to train 2 dogs instead of just one. As you probably know, trying to find a young corgi in California is next to impossible, unless you are open to a corgi mix. I know of several corgi/border collie puppies in a couple of different shelters if you would be open to a mix. Also if you are willing to consider an older dog who still has lots of life and love to give, look at B.A.R.K. rescue in Simi Valley or St. Anthony's Canine Rescue. Both have several adult corgis for adoption. We are heading into February ("dump your dog month") which means lots of Christmas puppies are about to be dumped because the irresponsible owners have realized how much work a puppy actually is, so keep an eye on craigslist and petfinder in the next month, and you will probably be able to find a poor puppy needing re-homing.

Hey, did you see the post about kolby?  He is in the San Diego Area.  About 1 they said.

Hi everyone,

Jax is a couple days short of 4 months, which I understand that he's still way too young to even say he's *completely* housebroken (until the first year, right?). So I would still be watching out for signs of regression and go from there.

And thank you Sam! I did read the FAQ and sat down with my partner to set up a spreadsheet on how much we have spent on Jax so far, and did an estimate of the year. We decided that it's like raising a child and we are stable enough for another, plus we get to bring home a dog that needs as much love as he/she can get.

I definitely would not be looking for a young corgi as in puppy-aged, but I am actually looking for around 2+ years old.

Very good! contact PWCCSC, good luck and all the best!

Do you have a facebook page? There is a group on there called "Corgi Rescues of America" that has a lot of postings for corgis all around the country. I have noticed quite a few postings for CA. Good Luck!!

Just added the FB page. It's so heartbreaking to see that the National Mill Dog Rescue just got almost SIX corgis in. :(

But I did see the link for Kolby! E-mailed them, hopefully they're not flooded with e-mails. :)

I was just about to tell you about Kolby! Good luck!
