Prayers for our members and everyone living along the Gulf Coast

Hopefully, all of our members in the possibly affected areas of the Gulf Coast have evacuated to a safe area. The outlook is frightening but know that we will all do what we can from our various corners of the world and especially in this country, to help. I want all of you and everyone living in those areas to know that Timmy's and my prayers are with you and your four and two legged families. Be Safe, lives are worth far more than any property.

We may be thousands of miles away, but our hearts go out to you all. Corgi Love!

We live in Livingston Parish, just outside of Baton Rouge. We haven't been called for a mandatory evacuation yet (though most around us have...something wrong here?). We rode out Katrina and we plan to ride this one out too. I dont think New Orleans can take another hit this soon, but I guess whatever happens, happens, so bring it on, Gustav!
Thanks for the prayers. We are in Mobile, AL on the east side of the storm. As many know, we lost everything in Katrina. So, we're more than sensitive toward those in the path of Gustav. If the storm stays on its current path, our area will receive a boat load of rain and 40-60mph winds. We're about 50 miles inland. Along the coast, they're waiting out 6-20' wave action, depending on where landfall occurs. It's a good thing New Orleans evacuated. Even though they weren't a hit from Katrina (the levy system broke from the water), they live in a bowl. When you look UP the levy and realize the water is OVER your head, it's time to go. Do remember those along the MS coast (Bay St. Louis, Waveland, etc.) who DID get nailed by Katrina and many are still living in trailers. It's not a good situation any way you look at it.

And Amanda, stay safe. You look like you're going to get a good bit of wind and rain. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
I saw your post that said that you did ok too, glad to hear you also are ok from Gustav, couldnt imagine going through two storns in this short of time especially considering all the damage of the first storm.
We are keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers who are in the path of the storm of Gustav. Stay safe and hope the storm doesnt leave behind too much damage. Once again you are in are prayers.
You've got me holding a good thought for all those along the Gulf Coast as well.
Well...the storm is past with minimal damage to my own home which I'm thankful for, but i am on my third day without electricity and i haven't slept at all because of the heat. Poor Dax is miserable too, I hate to even leave him to try and go to work. Hope everyone else made it out okay.
Glad to hear that everything turned out ok for you. Hope you get your electricity back soon, I am sure Dax does too!
Amanda, our prayers are with you and Dax. I know how insufferable the heat can be--especially when mixed with the humidity from the storms! Ick! Glad you came through okay apart from the electricity. How's the water? Do you have to boil or get bottled?

We did fine, but the folks along the MS Gulf Coast got nailed again. The casinos got a good 3' of water inside and, from what I hear, the FEMA trailers are damaged. The folks along the immediate coast are back to square one (like Katrina). Our PetSmart in Gulfport took a beating. It will be a bit before it opens again.

We're just thankful that, for the most part, the levies held. There are a number of animal rescue groups in place. If you are big on donations, they could use the help. Just check out the ASPCA website. Also, PetSmart Charities does a good bit during disasters. You can help through them, as well.

Stay dry. Hugs to you both from us.
I was just informed of a boil advisory last night for my parish until....they say otherwise. I still dont have electricity but my sister and her husband got theirs back on yesterday and they brought their generator here, so we hooked up the AC in one room and are able to cook and run the refridgerator, so we're doing a lot better now. We had to wait in line for an hour this morning to get gas, and we got lucky. By the time we finished the line was about a mile down the road. Hopefully we won't be too much longer without electricity, but I'm hearing that it could be weeks until they get everyone back up. Oh well. I guess we'll take what we can get for now.
