Question about crating

Hello everyone! I want to know how long you had your dog on a crate while away to work, etc. per day? and also, when they grow older, do you still leave them on a crate? Thanks!

Ross,
When you leave your pup in the crate, do you leave water or food as well? I'm all for switching from the play pen to the crate but I don't know if it's ok for him to go 8 hours without water, at the same time, if I leave water in the crate it's more likely that he will have an accident. I don't know all the rules of crating. :)

I don't leave water, but Atlas has a problem with over-drinking. He will finish an entire bowl when he gets thirsty enough, which always ends in him throwing it back up. If you are keeping your dog in a cool place, and he is drinking in the morning and after he gets out, I wouldn't worry too much about keeping him hydrated enough. He probably is spending 7+ of the 8 hours sleeping anyway.
