Hi I hear you! We went to Florida in October last year and needed to find somewhere for our corgi to stay who would take good care of him! We hadnt left him ever anywhere or with anyone in three years!!!!! We ended up finding a great pet resort for him to stay at, in fact we just had a corgi meet up there last week. Talk to alot of people and see if they can recommend any place good and then of course do some investigating yourself, like go and visit where he will stay and see if you like it yourself. The place we ended up boarding our corgi at I actually know someone on here who used the place as well as raved about it. : )

I thought of the idea of keeping him in his house and having someone come to the house to take care of him but I didnt like that idea either, cause I didnt know them well enough. The pet resort ended up being the best because he could get his excercise with the other dogs during the day and he also had a room that had a doggie door which had access to the outside so he could sit and watch which he loves to do in our own backyard!! I thought about having someone come here also, but like you I don't want some random person coming to my house while I'm not home, and Dax is the type of dog that needs someone here when he goes to bed and when he wakes up, I can't just have someone come around twice a day for 30 minutes just to take him out and run around with him for a little while. After I posted this I googled pet sitting services and I found a few that look promising but wow they're expensive. I guess I'll have to suck it up and pay it, I'm sure he'll have fun playing with the other dogs anyway, he probably won't even know I'm gone!

Yes its expensive but worth it. The other reason I like the idea of boarding where he could run and play with the other dogs is that corgis are working dogs and they need a job to do and sitting around for too long could spell big trouble, they definately need somewhere to get their energy out. Just remember if you board him, he will need to have a bordetella vaccination to protect him from kennel cough and also most places require a stool test. Im sure you will find all that out when you call but thought I would give you a heads up. Im sure he will have so much fun playing with the other dogs, I know Lance did and I was soooo worried about it. I wasnt worried about him having a good time cause I knew he would, but being the first time we left him I just wanted to make sure all went well and I am a worrier so I can find things to worry about, lol!!!

A lot depends on the place that you board. Some are much better than others. I agree with Natalie about asking around.

I haven't had to travel in the couple of months that I've had Gus but I used to have to travel quite a bit for work back when I had my last two dogs. After trying a couple of other places because they were cheaper, I ended up boarding them with my vet. At the time my older dog required medication twice a day and I didn't trust some of the other places to give it to him consistently.

And in the end the vet worked out to be the best place for them. The vet techs must have treated them pretty well because the dogs were actually happy to go there when I had to board them. As soon as we walked in the door of the vet office they would run over to the vet techs and start wagging their tails. It sure made me feel better about leaving them there when I had to go out of town.

We are on the road a lot, in my opinion, the price you pay for hotel pet fees will come quite close to boarding them. Plus you get what you paid for, cheap motels are hot beds for fleas, if you plan to bring him along, treat yourself to a higher quality accommodation and avoid anything with numbers or end with inn. Depending on how long you'll be away, it might be best to find a good friend who know what they're going or a good kennel. Depending on where in Florida, there are some great pet friendly places, who knows may be one of our members can pet sit for you :)
