Best wishes to all the families who love Corgis out there.

I have uploaded a photo of Jem; my 2 yr old neutered male tri-colored Corgi. I have been searching for a new home and family to adopt Jem as my small kennel has restrictions imposed as to how many dogs I may maintain at any one time. Jem is a love, a wonderful dog in all ways, except confirmationally. He needs to find a forever home where he will be loved and receive the attention he deserves. I am hoping to get some help from all of you in finding that home for him. There is always good information and funny stories on this site and while I do not post much myself, I enjoy what the rest of you write very much indeed.

I am a publisher and writing instructor so Jem is named after a character in TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD. Scout, the main character’s older brother was named Jem, and as Jem is a brother to my Ivy, I thought it a good name for him. He is smart and funny. He has a beautiful, soft black, white and red coat, that is not quite what the Corgi standards require but is smooth and lovely to pet. He is well trained as far as basic commands and he is very quick to pick up any new tricks you can think up for him. His ears are very large, even for a Corgi and therefore one of them does not stand up in the traditional way. This gives him a rakish, impish appearance that really doesn’t match with his kind and gentle soul. He gets along with all other dogs, and cats as he currently lives with both. He loves to swim and to walk on a leash, but with the latter, he needs to be reminded of his manners on occasion as he can get excited and pull sometimes. He is good with children and is a love playing with them.

Jem can only be adopted by someone who is serious in giving him a forever home. I will take him back if he does not fit in with a new family well. I have all of his medical records and photos of his life thus far that I will share with the adoptive family. And, although I am determined to find the right home for him, I will miss him terribly when I am successful.

Please contact me if you know of anyone who is looking for a young adult, purebred Corgi who just happens not to match the confirmation standards for Pembrokes. I will be happy to talk with anyone who is interested and see if Jem might be a good fit for you.

Will do. Let me know if you need any other info on Jem. He truly is a "gem" I promise you.
I would need to talk with her and see if this would be a good fit as a home for Jem. The adoption fee is minimal and I would discuss that with her. It would be wonderful, if he is going to move out of the area if he could travel with you and not have to be shipped on a plane! I would feel so much better about that. Let me know what you think after you have some more discussions with her. If she would like to speak with me I can give you contact information.
