Help! Bonnie, my Corgi mix, while protecting the homestead this morning, was sprayed in the face by a skunk! Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of the stench especially in the face area? I don't like methods I've researched on the internet.

A huge whopping can of tomatoe sauce from Sam's Club or costco
I just found this online. It is probably better than a tomato juice bath..which is the "old fashioned" remedy

A chemist by the name of Paul Krebaum discovered a solution that chemically neutralizes skunk odor. The ingredients for the formulation are:

1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (fresh bottle)

1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)

1-2 teaspoons liquid dish soap.
Ingredients must be mixed in an open container and used immediately. Never mix the ingredients in advance because oxygen released from hydrogen peroxide may cause a closed container to explode. The solution can be used on people or pets; avoid splashing the product in the eyes or mouth. Allow the solution to remain on hair for five minutes before rinsing with water. Repeat as needed. Do not use this solution on clothing — it may discolor the fabric.
I can't personally think of anything.. but I just wanted to say Im so sorry! I hope you get Bonnie de-skunked soon!
Hi BonMoLob
Home canned tomato's is the best thing that I have used.. Hope you have good luck getting rid of the smell. :-(
How's Bonnie now? what kind of method did you use to de-skunk her?
Just was wondering how Bonnie is doing?? Did anything work for you????
Bonnie is smelling much better. Not sweet yet, but better. Thank you for asking & also for your suggestions. The first day we used a combo of tomato sause, dishwashing liquid to cut through the oil, & some skunk out stuff from Petco. It helped some but I think she got hit from a pretty close range. She went to grooming today & they used some sort of deodorizer & extra doggy cologne. Now she really only smells bad around the parts you can't clean very easily like her eyes, etc. Poor baby! I don't know how she can stand it herself.
