Hello all,

Anyone have any recommendation on where I can bring Kenji to be neutered?
Looking for some place that is reputable but does not cost an arm and a leg if at all possible.
We're located in Hayward Cali.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

I highly recommend the penninsula humane society, located in San Mateo! It was $80 - and bailey was back to normal the next day. There was even a nurse there that loved corgis, so i knew bailey was in good hands. They are very drowsy the night after u pick htem up, but bailey was back to normal the next day! Oh! and call early if you are going to go to PHS - the next available appointment could not be until 2 months later!

Also - $80 is a steal considering the SPCA in San Francisco quoted me about $240! But - the $80 does not include anything but neutering (I heard some places run blood tests, give you a cone, give u pain meds) - bailey didn't need any of that!.
Hi Alex,

I've actually done some fostering, and many of the groups in the Bay Area use the Peninsula SPCA. I have gone there for spaying & neutering, and it wasn't a place I would bring my life long companion. That is not to say they don't do a good job. They are affordable, which is why so many rescue agencies use them! On the other hand, there isn't a lot of "bed side manor." it smells, and just isn't the happiest place on the planet.

For my pets (currently 2 cats), I go to Ygnacio Animal Hospital in Walnut Creek. Granted, I can only speak to their treatment of cats, they are amazing (and I see dogs there every time I take in one of my babies). Last year, a foster kitty I was caring for became horribly ill. Since the foster org couldn't afford treatment, my husband and I took on the expense of caring for the ailing kitty. It was a long and very tough road, including daily visits to Ygnacio. The staff never wavered in their help and support for our kitty and family. The staff is amazing, truly loves animals, and the vet staff is unparalleled. Long story short, because of their care of Charlie, he survived, and is now a happy and healthy adult.

I know that you're just looking for a place for an easy quick procedure, but keep in mind that Kenji is going to be a part of your family for many years, and as such, will need medical care throughout. I would recommend finding a vet, whether is be Ygnacio, or another location, where you and your pup will have a strong, open and fun relationship with the medical staff. You will be seeing them a lot over the years, and much like with a pediatrician, your vet will become a part of your family.

We were quoted about $450 for Kenji to be neutered by our vet.
This will come with blood work, overnight stay, cone, medicine, and etc.
Is this the average price for this type of procedure to be done by a vet?
I've never heard of a vet doing blood work with a simple neuter, nor an overnight visit. That's very odd.

From my experience a neuter for a dog should cost $80-150.
