I love all of your pictures. Your beach attachment is just too darling!! I have a friend whose corgi drags her feet and she wears her toenails down to bloody little stubs. I have heard that it could be IVDD. I don't know if she ever followed through with more vet checkups.

Yes, I had a corgi who was born with this. I took him to a nuero doctor who said they could do tests on his brain, although not sure what that would tell us or do...so I did nothing....If I walked him with his sibling on the road I would wrap his paws with duct tape....after trying every sock or shoe I could find or make, they all would tear off from the swishing....if I didn't wrap them then his toes would bleed. I used wide tape that was either the silver or red...and then scissor it off and rip the rest off easily....
He was our "special" boy!!!

Thank you for your reply! His haven't bled yet but I've been limiting his walks so it's a little hard to control his weight. Was your Corgi extremely (mellow or relaxed) for lack of a better word? When I put him down after holding him, he just kind of falls over. He doesn't really brace himself. I don't know if that makes sense but if yours was the same way, you'd know what I mean. I'm wondering if his calm temperment is related to the paw dragging? He is actually the best dog we've ever owned and I think he might be so relaxed because he get's so much affection? Either that or my boy is "SPECIAL" too! haha

Baron has a premature closure of the growth plate on his right shoulder. As a result he walks like a neanderthal with his front paws dragging on the ground, causing his nails to bleed. He has been to Dr. Nanos at the Valley Forge Animal hospital who also diagnosed him with a neurological disorder. The only suggestion that he made short of surgery was to not let Baron walk on concrete or macadam. He is completely normal beside this.

what the?? Oh my! Well, I got a toe-dragger too. His middle toes get way worn down (in the summer). I had to keep him off the pavement for a few days every so often. I thought all corgis scuffled their feet - one of their endearing qualities. Well, he's fine other than that! His gait is straight, his conformation looks good... hmmm interesting to see this thread. I walked him lots last summer; this year I'll lessen his pavement time & be more mindful of his nails.

After buying dog mutlucks which Baron will not wear, I also found that duct taping his paw works great.  Just cut it off when we're done working.
