Has anyone else read "Under the Dome"? It's a huge novel, and is now one of my favorite King books. It's got a corgi in it! His name is Horace and he belongs to the town newspaper editor.

My son just finished reading it and was excited to show me the book jacket. If you look carefully, down near the very bottom you will see a little corgi. He looks like a tri.

Stephen King has corgis, and you can tell when you read about Horace that King is familiar with the breed.

Stephen King wrote this for an article in the Washington Post:
"Early this summer, while my wife and son were doing a joint reading at the public library in Portland, Maine, I got stuck with dog-duty. Our dog is Frodo, a plump and cheerful Welsh Corgi. He makes no trouble. I took him to Deering Oaks Park, found a bench in the shade and wrote four good pages on my new novel in the notebook I carry around. Frodo kept an eye on the ducks. Those four pages weren't perfect -- far from it -- but they were words on paper, and they marched.

People walked past, and no one gasped, "Oh, look! That man is caught in the cosmic godhead fire of the writing life!"

One woman did ask if my dog was a Corgi. I said he was. She informed me the Queen has Corgis. I told her I knew that. Then I went back to writing my novel, and Frodo went back on duck patrol. "

Hee hee, his corgi's name is Frodo!
I just finished Under The Dome, it was really good! I'm such a Stephen King fan, and I love that he has a corgi himself. I live in Maine too, here's hoping I bump into him sometime, preferable with Penny in tow!
wow, wouldn't it be cool to run into him while he was out walking his corgi! That would be a dream come true, LOL
Ha, I know he lives in Bangor, if it wasn't 2 hours away from my house I'd be frequenting the dog parks there. Is that too stalkerish? :)
I was so excited when I read it and discovered Horace!!
OMG, as I was reading the story I was terrified...for Horace! It was the first time I was THAT attached to a character. I was literally on the edge of my seat. I looove Horace!
Ditto!
I love that book! Stephen King doesn't always have re readability, but that one I didn't sell back. I love Under the Dome!
Did you like The Stand as well? I've found The Dome and The Stand are the only ones of his I've kept for their re-readability!!
The Stand was probably my favorite stand-alone King book, but now it shares that honor with Under the Dome. I've read everything he's written. My favorite book he wrote as Richard Bachman is The Long Walk. I highly suggest it! The last King work I had to catch up on was the Dark Tower series, which I tackled last summer. Seven humongous books. I loved it! There is a creature called Oy (a Billy-Bumbler) that King modeled after a corgi.
Did you read the short by Stephen King entitled The Gingerbread Girl? I came across it at random and found it to be quite awesome for a short story.
I'm not sure..what book of short stories is it in?
