We live in an apartment complex with a small lake nearby. Ducks frequent this lake and often leave their poo where our dog eliminates. When we take Midas out, it seems like he searches for the duck poo first. Once he gets some, he then goes about his potty business. There is no other place for us to take him potty, so we are wondering if anyone has any suggestions about averting this behavior. We try to keep him from getting into it, but its really hard to...he likes to lunge for it! We also tell him no and tell him to drop it when he gets it into his mouth, but he just won't listen. He drops his toys and such just fine, but when it comes to duck poo, he won't listen to any of our commands.

Ofelia's nickname - one of her many nicknames - is Dr. Goosepoop. She does the exact same thing. I try to keep her away from it and she's sometimes good at dropping it when I tell her to. As long as she's up-to-date on her shots and heartworm preventative, I don't worry too much. It's just frustrating, as you're saying. Practice the "leave it" command until he masters it. It'll just take some time. It'll be good anyway, so that if he picks up something poisonous, for example, he'll drop it upon command. I'm not strict about commands with Ofie - she's a free thinker and I love it. But "leave it" is essential. Also "drop it"
