Corgi's Tongue Paralyzed

Hi All,
My sister's 5 year old female corgi woke up one morning with the front half of her tongue paralyzed. The vet said that she had no idea why this could have happened. I say it might have been a small stroke. Have any of you heard such a thing before? My sister has to feed her with a turkey baster. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

oh my goodness, no i have no idea, maybe an infection? or..i dont know but i hope she gets better :(

I am not a VET, but ask your vet to see if this can be rabies, paralyzed tongue is one of the passive symptom, check out this link for more info. Keep us updated.

My only thought would be if she has had the occasion to receive acepromazine any time recently. This sometimes is used in preparation for surgery or as a tranquilizer to allow dogs to be handled or as an aid for reactive dogs for thunderstorms/loud noises. I do know one of my girls had a partial paralysis though not in the tongue. I noticed a delay in her eye blinking. While it is an unusual reaction I have found indeed it does happen. I would also consider having the vet evaluate this dog more in depth. An x-ray would show any skeletal or dense tissue abnormalities. I wouldnt settle for "I dont know" from my vet.

Thanks, everyone for your advice and good wishes. We will talk to the vet about the possibility of this being a passive symptom of rabies. I pray that it is not. This corgi is my neice's best friend and the reason she wants to be a vet when she grows up (she's only 8, but loves corgi's so much that's all that it took. Love at first look :)
