Hi, everyone. I need some advice from you guys. I'm waiting for my puppy (black headed tri)which will take 2 more weeks. I visited the breeder and saw the puppy today. I noticed he's got bluish-grey eye color. There was a one more tri-color puppy w/ same eye coloring. Though, other red and white puppies had dark brown eyes. Breeder says they will just turn dark brown when he gets older. Is that something common for tricolor cogis to have a bluish-grey tone eye color when they are puppies?

Hi Richard,
I got my Morgan from a breeder and brought him home at 10 weeks. He is a blackheaded tri. When he was a puppy he had blue eyes until he was about 6 months old. Now his eyes are beautiful brown. I would say it's normal for the blue eyes. I thought they were so cute. Hope this helps. Congrats on getting a tri, they are so special!

Charlie is a red headed tri and his eyes were bluish-grey when he was a pup. I don't remember when they changed but now his eyes are a beautiful medium brown, not dark brown at all. Don't worry about the color, your vet should be able to tell you if his eyes are healthy and normal in your 1st puppy check up. A good breeder should give you time to have your pup checked out by your vet (usually in the contract) in which you can return him if he has any health defects.
I bet your baby is fine and healthy - just enjoy him and watch those georgeous eyes change color!
I have a 14 week red-headed tri, and he has hazel-ish looking eyes! You wouldn't really realize it until you see them in direct sunlight.

I'm sure it's normal.
I would't worry about it they will most likely change. There is a thing for tri cardigans that is called a cryptic blue. This meaning that since the blue merle is in the gene's. My tri has this trait so I was told by a predominate breeder. They says if you breed there is a chance for the blue color to emerge in the puppies I believe. Anyway I wouldn't worry about it but do have the eyes checked or see if the breeder knows the line and make sure the eyes are fine down the line. You won't have a dull day with your new pup and you may never want a different breed.
i may be wrong but im pretty sure all puppies are born with blue eyes! i'm sure they will change with time!
Ein (also a blackheaded tri) had blue-gray eyes as a puppy, and he still has dark gray eyes now. He's a bluie, and grey eyes are typical of bluies.
Callie had the bluish-grey eye color when I got her.. Her's are now a very pretty brown. Lots of animals are born with Blueish eyes that change when they are older. Perfectly normal! :)
Thanks for posting this info! I was wondering about Teggie's eyes. She is still with the breeder and has dark grey eyes. Her mother and father are both reds and have brown eyes. I guess they will change to brown--?

Warmly,

Christiane
yup, Freya had dark blue eyes when I first got her at 6.5 weeks. Gradually, her eyes turned green and then hazel and finally she grew into her brown eyes. Good luck with the upcoming new puppy!
