Yesterday I gave my 5mo. old Eero a sample greenie treat that I bought from PetCo for being so well behaved during his flea treatment. I turn around to throw the treatment applicator away and when I look at him again, the greenie was missing and presumed swallowed.

This got me worried. The greenie was petite sized (for dogs 15-20lbs and eero is about 18) so I thought it was a little bit big for him to swallow. He started pacing around the kitchen and whimpering. He ate his dinner heartedly but he seemed fairly sluggish compared to his normal rambunctious self. I wasn't sure if it was because of the greenie or because he disliked his flea medication (or both!)

This morning he was back to his normal self. Frapping around, and generally being his naughty puppy self. He had normal stools in our morning walk but after I fed him dinner he started to have diarrhea. I don't know if the diarrhea is unrelated to the greenie and was simply something bad he ate in the yard or if I should be very concerned.

I've read some nasty things on the internet pertaining to greenies and doggie health so I am wondering if I'm just being paranoid and that it will pass or if I should take him to the vet tomorrow?

if hes pooping, its a very good sign (diarrhea or formed stool) when you're worried about blockage. Their new formula is "chewy" and meant to dissolve much easier in the tummy- but eating one that fast could have just upset his stomach. I personally think it should pass. Bailey's actually swallowed about a 1/3 of a LARGE greenie (he thought i was coming ot take it away so he swallowed it super fast), and he passed green-looking watery poo the next morning. If the diarrhea persists (more than a day - like tomorrow morning), id take him to the vet.

the diarrhea could also be from the flea meds, since bailey used to get diarrhea from his worm meds as a youngster.

Try giving him some banana. You probably haven't heard this much, but Banana works wonders for bailey when he has the runs. It helped another corgi we know too. Either that, or pumpkin (but for osme reason thats never worked for us but highly recommened by everyone here)... or you can try the plain chicken and rice..

If he's pooping, you don't have to worry about blockage!

oo and the runs is quite common in puppies, especially when trying new treats. a couple months back, our pet store had a special in the ad, free pigs ear with any purchase. I WILL NEVER BUY A PIGS EAR AGAIN!!. it didnt block anything.. but...... bailey had the runs ALL night. from about 6pm, every 2 hours he had to go outside (but he was very good at whimpering by hte door to be let out).. bloop bloop bloooop.. etc. he was fine after it passed through his system the next morn after pooping all night. and we gave him banana the next morning and that plugged him up till the afternoon and we celebrated when he had solid stool around 1pm =D.
Not to worry :) Anytime you introduce any new food or treat to a puppy or dog, it generally makes runnier poo. The first time I gave Hunter a greenie, the same thing happened to me. I turned around and it was gone. I thought maybe he had pushed it under the couch and so I looked and it wasn't there, he had ate it. I was worried, like you ( its what new corgi mommis do) and then he was fine. There was some runny poo I think a few times but not too terribly bad and then it was back to normal. I am sure Eero will be just fine : )
