Tricks help and obedience NIGHTMARE!!!
I LOVE teaching Little Bear tricks. So far, here's what we can do:
- "Bang!" and "shoot" him and he plays dead
- "Circles! Circles!": he runs in a circle
- Speak- well duh
- Lay down
- Jump
- Gimme five
- Sit
- Stay
- "Come here": jumps on the sofa (which he will only do when he knows he's getting a treat, any thoughts on that would be appreciated).
He is so smart and learns tricks so fast and loves to learn, but I can't think of anything cool enough to teach him anymore. Like really unique tricks... He's getting bored with all the old ones, and I'm stuck. So what do you and your baby do? HELP!!!
On that same note, I'm having major issues. Little Bear is beyond spoiled. I mean, the kid has a seatbelt. He goes everywhere with me. And because of that (I think), he does not understand the phrase "come here" or even know his own name! I live in an apartment and it's relatively small, so we're always together whether he likes it or not (lol). But when I take him to the dog park, he doesn't respond to "come here" or even his NAME when I call! And I'm befuddled! I want to be able to walk him off the leash one day, but how can I when he won't LISTEN? It's so aggravating, I'm just stumped. How do I teach him to come here even though he responds to treats ONLY on the couch only? Lost lost lost...
Oh yeah, and still, whatever tricks you guys do.
A side note: He can stay and I'll go hide and he'll come to me when I call, but it's like he's so defiant he IGNORES me when he hears it normally (I've tried everything I can think of, believe me!!!). Oh, and he will actually come, but it's only when I'm walking away from him when we're in the dog park.

In 6 short months kiyo has gotten proficient with:
Sit
Stay (the trick version)
Wait (the on-leash walk version)
Shake & Other Hand (both hand shake)
Down
Down-stay
Inside (runs inside from the porch)
Outside (runs outside)
Go potty!
Drop it
Leave it/Take it
Go get it!
Bring it back (return any item in mouth to me)
In my hand (drops toy into my palm if it's low enough, otherwise she just drops it at my feet)
Speak
Whisper
Roll over (only does this one for food- hates to do it on command!)
Dance Dance! (stand up, balance on 2 legs and generally freak out)
Up (jump up on the couch, or on the bed at night)
Off (off the couch/bed... but she is so afraid she rarely follows through, she just gets in position to be lifted off, haha)
GO! (run around like crazy and chase time)
STOP (stop moving and look and pay attention!)
Crate Time! (runs in her crate, turns around patiently)
I'm currently working on-
sneeze
spin spin
on your back
on your side
quiet - (for when she does her protector barks too much when someone walks near the door/hallway out of sight)
balancing a treat on the nose and holding until release command
catch (IMPOSSIBLE!! she thinks I'm trying to attack her when I throw tiny treats at her! help!)
We need to do a video trick compilation soon!
I think the secret to treat weaning is making sure they never know when they're getting a treat... you have to be VERY sneaky about getting them. if kiyo even hears a hint of the treat bags or cabinet being opened, she'll be 100% focused on me until she gets some rewards for her attention. When I hide treats where she can't smell or see them, it works a bit better when you do reward them, because then they can't predict where they are and when they're going to get them.
Another thing I've sort of read is that you should only be giving them attention when they follow a command or when YOU want them to be attentive. If you smother them with constant attention and petting for no reason, they will be so spoiled with your affection that it sort of becomes less meaningful. When I ignore kiki walking around the house and cooking/cleaning for a couple hours (this means NO eye contact, no interaction at all), you can bet when it's time to call her name and do tricks SHE IS READY!

Aww good luck finding new tricks for your puppers :) A lot of these tricks posted are great ideas!
One of the first things we did when we got Roxi was put a list up on the fridge that listed new tricks to learn and also tricks she knows and how well she knows it (aka i'll keep doing a certain trick once a night till she knows/knows it along with the new one) it also for some reason attracts friends to try and help us teach her stuff heheh :D
So whenever we read/heard/watched a video online with a new trick we've never seen before, we just get up and add it to the list!

I have to say my favorite thing to do with her are her "hup" tricks. Which is basicly different ways for her to jump lol. Up in the arms *practically standing up all the way.. little girl can jump high*. Off our legs and back to catch the frisbee or just from different places to body parts.... from someone's back to someone's arms to over the shoulder down the back to the couch lol... we got bored one night thats all Im going to say to explain how this started hahahah! Its a little aquward to have a friend walk into your apartment and be on all fours with your dog's front paws on your head and a frisbee in your hand I'll tell you that much ;)

Have to admit I havent taught many tricks. When our dog club first started the clicker class many of the instructors were the first students. At the end of the 8 week session we were all given the challenge of teaching the dog an unusual trick for the graduation week. My corgi girl Krumpet loves to retrieve. She had also learned the "touch" command quite well. In the week I taught her that if I sneezed she ran and got me a tissue. If I sneezed again she got the box. She was the star of graduation night. Clicker is a fun way to teach tricks.....also teaches the dog that a treat is coming at some point but will respond for that click quite consistently. She was actually filmed for Animal Planet a time ago. Dont know if the video was ever used. She did the job, I got the t-shirt

Kudos to you! You've taught him a lot!
A little on his NAME and COME. Charlie had learned all the basics (sit, down, stay, etc). Then while not having much success trying new commands, I realized that he didn't know his name is "Charlie". "How could that be?", I wondered, as many times a day as I said "Good Boy, Charlie!"
We spent about 3 days working on nothing but him making eye contact with me when I said, "Charlie!" in a happy voice. Have him close enough that you can give him quick treat. When he is not really paying attention to you, say "Little Bear!" If he makes eye contact (for a fraction of a second), say "Good Little Bear" and give him a treat. Touch the treat to you nose right before you give it to him, so he starts to associate the "good thing" with looking in your eyes when you say his name. If you say his name, and he doesn't look, don't repeat the command. Go back to doing something else and try again in a few minutes. This is very similar to "Watch me!" or "Focus!", but I've found it helpful to just use Charlie's name. Teaching his name made it easier to teach a reliable "Come". If we're out with him off leash, he now drops what he's doing and looks at me if I say "Charlie!". If I say "Good Boy, Charlie", he can go back to whatever he was doing. If I say "Come!" (or any other command) while I have his eye contact, he obeys the second command.
You might have worn out the "Come here" command if Little Bear ignores you. He's learned that "Come here" means he doesn't really have to do anything. You may need to change to "Get close", "By Me", or some other command (you may be able to switch back to "Come" later after he knows what to do). You really don't want to give a "come" command unless you are 99% sure the dog is going to come. With Charlie, I never said "Come" initially unless he was already running full-blast toward me. About halfway, I'd say "Come Boy!" When he got to me, we'd have a belly rubbing, praising party. When he knew the command, then I could call him away from anything (with "Charlie!" first to get his attention). I haven't had to use a long training lead (20-50 ft lightweight line), but it can be helpful if your dog won't come reliably from a distance. You can find lots of websites on how to use a long line effectively.

I was talking with my partner about teaching Brynn new tricks and in the conversation i used the word down and Brynn walked in and went down ! LOL We were both laughing so hard . What a funny girl she is :)

You guys have so many trick ideas. so far I am still teaching Spartan the basics and he doesn't always do em, especially the "come" command. He will look at me and go half way down when i tell him to lay lol. but, I look forward to teaching him alot more.

I only have a small comment/reply on a trick
spread em - just what cops ask you :D
Your dog just have to but it's front paws on a wall.
You can also look up on Youtube or Google to find some neat tricks.
