Another water question...

Ok, so we've got water at night down. I take Jasper's water up an 1 1/2 to 2 hours before his bedtime after his evening walk and he's been great at sleeping through the night. In the morning, he goes out and then gets a quick drink before he starts his puppy playing for the day. However, when I leave him in his crate in the daytime, when I let him out he acts like he's thirsting to death! I've only left him in the crate for 2.5 hours max and I can tell he's been sleeping, but when he gets out he tries to empty the water bowl! It makes me feel so bad for depriving him, but I don't want him to go potty in his crate either (he's only 12 weeks old). Should I be worried about it? He goes for 8 hours at night without water so I don't understand the urgency for it during the day...any advice? Thanks!

Try leaving him with a few ice cubes to chew on while you are gone. That may satisfy his thirst without putting to much into his system.

I got Charlie a water bottle for her crate. She always used to act like that too, like she was going to die of thirst. Every time I let her out, the first place she went was the water bowl and drank practically the entire thing. I thought maybe she was a little dehydrated so I went to Petsmart and got a water bottle. It may only work with wire crates, which is what I have, so if you have a plastic travel-style crate I don't know if this will help you. It's pretty much like a rodent water bottle with the little ball-bearing at the bottom. They lick it to get water, so she doesn't drink super huge amounts at a time, but if she needs a little bit, its there for her. She actually didn't drink from it too much when we put it in there either...not like when we'd let her out before and she'd been deprived of water completely.
