Are your Corgi's 'famous'?? Does this ever happen to you? :)
This is more a curiousity question, as I have experienced this seeming 'phenomenom' where people will just have to run up to me and my dogs and ask what kind of dogs they are, or want to tell me all about their friend who had one, or how they love them, etc
Is it just me, or does the general public just have a huge curiousity and fascination about the Corgi?
I see hundreds of dogs, and never (ok, maybe once or twice) have the urge to run up to someone and ask about their dogs... as much as I love animals.
I think it is really neat personally, but just curious what others have experienced with their Corgis. Does this happen to ALL dog owners regardless of breed? I have only ever owned Corgi's personally, so maybe I am just naive?
Some of the things that have happened to me:
A motorcyle stopped in the middle of the road while I was walking Rowdy one day, the biker parked his bike, took off his helmet, and just HAD to say hello to Rowdy. He just couldnt help himself!
I have had cars yell to me and call me over (some have even parked and came over) and ask what type of dogs those are?! And then proceed to tell stories, or look in wonderment at my puppies.
People will slow down when I have Lilo in the front yard and just smile and wave and look at her... or yell out how cute she is.
When I bring Lilo to Petsmart people seem fascinated with her, "Oh look! It's a CORGI!" and all of the workers always want to play with her (granted I know it is their job to be friendly.)
I was walking my dogs past the cadillac dealership and a couple that was at the service center asked if they could come see my dogs for a moment...
I dont see any other breed specific social networking sites.... lol... although I havent really looked! ha ha
So I wanna hear others stories... of their 'famous' corgi's! :)

o yes! this happens to me ALL the time!! lol i was beginning to wonder the same thing. every time i walk through my neighborhood anyone that is outside has to pet him, even if they are in a rush and i hear kids yell "aww such a cute puppy! can we pet him!" teddy loves it. the one that really cracks me up is when we were in down town Charleston on a 7 mile hike through the city and it seemed lie everyone just flocked to him "omg its a corgi!" i had people also shouting from the street "what kind of dog is that?" or awww he so adorable!! i had a big buff guy run from the other side of the street and said i just had to pet your dog, i have never seen such a cute dog in my life lol and i also had people run out of a store (who worked there) what kind is he? i have to get one! and when we were walking we ran into a person walking his corgi (so cute!) he waved and said "hey, want to have a corgi chat? " it was so funny because more people came to talk to us in the middle of the side walk and we all had a conversation about corgis lol one even was a breeder and she said he was the cutest pup she has ever seen and said that i must be a proud owner of him, that maid me feel good:) lol on are last part of the trip we stopped at a little dog park and teddy was the only corgi, all the people came to me and asked the same questions, one wanted so many pics with her daughter(i was a happy corgi mom) lol we were on are way again and a cop stopped us and said "o my, thats a cute dog! im going to get one!" i laughed so hard. and just when we were about to get in the car three bikers came up to us and said " sorry to bother u miss but your dog is adorable, whats his name" he played with teddy for a bit then we had to go. it was an awesome day and teddy just love the attention
also we go to all the pet stores in are area and every time the same people are "hes back! welcome teddy! heres a treat sweetie" lol cracks me up every time. seems like everyone is in love with corgis:), i have never seen this with any other breed

Before I got Oliver, when I would see I Corgi, I would have to restrain myself from running over to say "hi." (Who's kidding who...I still do.) Since Oliver, I've had cars stop in the middle of the (not-so-busy) street so that the driver's could get out and say "hi."
There's something about the breed. They are the best little ambassadors and diplomats...or is their innate mind-control ability?

I've definitely had quite a few of these same experiences. The most common thing I have happen now is neighborhood kids knocking on my door to ask if Baxter can come out and play.
My "favorite" time happened at the beach last month. I went fishing with my boyfriend and a couple friends. Baxter and I decided to scope out a better spot. While we're walking down the beach, we pass a gaggle of sunbathing sorority girls. They immediately oooh and awwww over Baxter and tell me about their friend who has a corgi. I thought, ok thanks, and walked back to my group. Later, we decide to move our stuff down the beach to the better spot and have to walk past the girls again. This time, my bf and his friend are rolling our cooler down the beach in front of Baxter and me. Baxter is just going nuts barking at the cooler. (At the time, he couldn't help but bark at it as he hates things with wheels. He's gotten MUCH better about this.) As we're passing the girls again, I'm trying to calm Baxter down while trying to spy an eye on my bf and his friend to see if they checking out these girls. The girls, at the sight of Baxter's behavior, start getting all magic flute voice at how cute it is for him to be barking at the cooler. They oooh and awww again and I just shrug my shoulders and say, "What can I say? He hates things that roll." Then at the -exact- same time, -all- of the girls say, "AWWWW HE HATES THINGS THAT ROLL" and start to laugh. Then one of the girls (possibly their leader) says, "That's the funniest thing I've ever heard!" It was the oddest thing I have ever seen in my life. It was like they were one hive mind. I didn't know if I should keep standing there or run to catch up to my friends. After a moment, I looked up to see where my bf and his friend were. They had kept walking, but heard the exchange. We had a good giggle about it later.
Definitely <3 the corgi effect.

I get stopped all the time while out walking, i have had people stop the car and ask to pet her, and ask about the breed. Adora is very famous at the dog park, all the regulars that i see just light up and stop everything to say hi and know her by name, where this is a new person around the regulars tell them all about her, saves me from talking lol. I love it when we get to the dog park and i hear people haller my dogs name in accitment. There is a trail we take that is popular for dogs and joggers, i love watching jogger coming my way, not even pay attention to any dogs they pass infront or behind us but half of them just have to stop and meet Adora. oha nd hearing "o my gosh it a corgi" "look at that corgi". My favorite was when i met this guy at the dog park that is all about big dogs(he is always rant how he only really like big dogs) and he starts talking to me and asking me about what kind of dog i have and asked a million other queations, and every time we see him now he always has to say "corgi's are the only small dog i like and i hope to get a corgi one day" to every one around. Shows how easy they are to love and how they just capture everyones heart , and how they just make you feel happy when you see one. I love when people say they are not really dog people but they just think they are the cutest thing ever, and that if they ever get a dog it would only be a corgi.

I would have to say that I have had many of the same experiences as everyone else. Cars stopping, the convo about knowing someone who owns a corgi, the pup-arazzi photo ops... yup, been there done that.
At Sakura-con which is held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle we were heading towards the escalators on the bottom floor when from 3 stories up we hear someone yelling "Corgi!!!", very much in the manner one would yell "Godzilla!". Definitely an attention grabber.
While in a feed store a little girl, probably about 10 years old went up to my husband and very politely asked to pet Ashton. After she had her fill of corgi kisses she went back to her dad and pointed out Ashton. His response to seeing Ashton was "Yup, it's a little dog.". In a very stern voice his daughter replied, "It's not just a little dog, it is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi!". Which was then promptly followed by an entire breed history on corgis. During our shopping trip we could still hear her carrying on about how wonderful and useful corgis can be around the ranch.
During our visit to Vancouver, BC we were walking down the street when a woman commented that it was "nice to see a proper dog, one the Queen would be proud of".
It's gotta be that corgi mind control, there is no other explanation. lol

Søren is definitely famous in our neighborhood. Almost everyone who walks by us stops to pet him. They can't resist his little wagging stump. I'm now the corgi lady in the neighborhood. No one ever smiled at me before I got him, but now everyone is all smiles.
One day when we were walking, Søren found some trash on the street and was trying to swallow it. I was trying to tempt him to drop it with some treats and my boyfriend was just freaking out. Two different cars actually pulled over to see if they could help.
I could seriously by lying on the sidewalk foaming at the mouth and no one would stop to help me. But, here in SF, everybody loves dogs.

Even as a Corgi owner I have to plead guilty to responding to any Corgi I see. I've pulled into a parking lot and rushed over to some stranger with a Corgi just so I could pet the dog and ask it's name. At the Corgi picnic here in AZ I made an attempt to greet and scratch all 40+ Corgis. Talking to the humans was a secondary priority.
We live in a world perpetually short of smiles so the ability of a Corgi to generate a smile in friend and stranger alike is a treasured gift.
How could someone not smile at that face?

Ive noticed corgis are uber crowd magnets too! Every time I take Igor out SOMEONE has to come up and pet him and ask questions. I get the "what happened to his tail?" question a lot. There is a group of people that live a few doors down from me and if they see me and Igor out, they HAVE to come over and pet/love on him. My dog has a fan club. lol. But yea, even if we go to pet stores or to parks, people are always like "oh, its a corgi!" or just have to know what kind of dog he is.

I have really enjoyed reading everyones stories today! I cant wait to hear more! I think it is fascinating that we have all experienced very similar things. Corgi's are something special!
