I live in Redwood City, and am looking for a good place to take my corgi for nail trimming - (meaning, a clean place that won't hurt my dog, or cause it any stress, and has compasionate, kind persons handling pets).  I've used BowWowMeow before, but now the reviews are becoming very negative.  I also read good reviews on Raul's Grooming and Dolly's Treasures.  Any suggestions to share?

Here's the FAQ (and there are other threads here):

It's a little scary to learn, but NOT that hard, and once you've got it,  it's a 5-minute job.  The key is:

Start slow, play at it at first, to get the dog used to being on its back with feet handled.

Cut only a little.

Cut often, maybe once a week (I do it on Sundays).

If you never cut the quick, it won't hurt and the dog won't fear it.

If dog is scared, have an assistant distract it while you work (Al used to FREAK like I was amputating his feet; now I can do this without an assistant.  Gwynnie has always been easy).

Trim the paw fur too if you have smooth flooring.

See my posted photo in the FAQ; I cut front-to-back, it seems more "with the grain", although the tool looks designed for cutting the other direction.  Also, it may be easier after bathtime, claws may be softer when they're hydrated.

I use a drumel no one more compasionate or kinder to your dog than you.
