Hi everyone, well we have had Sophie for 7 days now.  She is doing wonderful.  Just looking for advise on what worked best for you all as far as getting  her to stop biting our hands feet etc.  She will grab a hold of my pants as i walk past.  I want to stop it the most effective and friendly way.  Thanks for all your advise, its much appreciated.

The best way that I've found is to make a really loud, dramatic yelping sound (just like another puppy would) when she bites.  Most likely she will stop and look at you as if to say, "Holy cow, are you okay?!  What happened?!"  After a couple of times with that happening it'll start to sink in that those sharp little puppy teeth hurt.  ;)

If, for some reason, the yelping actually gets her excited and she tries to bite more then you should immediately stop playing or giving any attention.  This way takes longer and is a bit harder because the puppy won't make the connection right away that the biting means that the fun is over.

That's the best way I've found too.  Yelp really loud, and then don't have anything to do with them for a couple of minutes.  Seanna used to bite HARD when we first got her, but it only took a week or so and she got the message.

The yelping may need to be way louder than you think; dogs actually sort of scream when they are bitten too hard in play.  Jack however got excited by the yelping so we needed to step over a baby gate and leave him alone for a minute or two.  It does take longer that way, as has been mentioned, but if yelping excites the pup it's the only other thing I'm aware of.

Grabbing at pants is tough.  They can hardly resist chasing stuff that moves.  In the short term, wear old clothes around the house and change at the last minute when you are going out.  In the long term, you can run and encourage pup to actually chase, but as soon as she uses her teeth stop.  Stay perfectly still.  Act like a statue and completely ignore her.  Pretend you are the snobbiest girl from high school, nose in the air and that you want nothing at all to do with the puppy.  As soon as she wanders away (because now you are boring) you can start running again and get her to chase you.  Chances are she'll get the hint and figure out that when she grabs your pants, the game is over.

Here is a past discussion with a link to lots of other past discussions about biting.  Good luck!!

Our older female has had a fantastic effect in helping our little guy not bite- she corrects him... Other then that when he bites put a bully stick in his mouth or some thing he is aloud to chew:))) We also have a tun of bully sticks all around the place...
