Do all corgi's act like they can't get enough food? We have had plenty of dogs, but, our new little corgi wolfs down his food and searches to find more. He has started fights with our other dogs (much bigger than him) thinking that there was food involved. Thank goodness that the other dogs are easily controlled. We can get Wookie to sit and wait for his food but, the second he is released he practically swallows the bowl and all. We are even trying the slotted bowl to slow him down. We give him 3 meals a day(1/2 cup each time) and carrots as treats. He is only 5 months old and we don't want to overdo it.

I know they have bowls designed to prevent dogs from eating too fas. A good way would actually be to feed him by hand, if you have the time... or to stick all the kibble in a treat dispenser!!!! (like the Stuffin' Kong).

The feeding-by-hand idea will teach him to be less food aggressive ( especially if he is with you - does he snap if you try to take the bowl away while hes eating?).

I'm not sure about how to deal with the other dogs - except that I've read that feeding them seperately does help.

good luck! and oh yes to answer your question, my Bailey is always hungryyyyyy!!! He's the only dog in the house.
We have that kind of bowl, it slows him down, but he dances around it thinking he's getting more, faster. He is definatly not food aggressive towards us. We do feed him with treats with the other dogs. They all have to sit toghether and there is no fighting. But, if he thinks that there is a morsel on the floor and one of the other dogs even go to sniff..... GRUFFF. The tiff is easily stopped but, I hate to think that Wookie seems to think that he is starving.
My boy Charlie has always swallowed his food whole. We have called him hoover because he sucks his food up like a vacuum. He would literally eat himself to death if we let him. I didn't think any other dog could eat as fast but our 1 year old sheltie also eats at warp speed. Our sheltie is very lean and thin but Charlie has a tendency to pack on the lbs. It is very hard on a corgi to allow them to carry too much weight. They can have back problems and it can shorten their lifespan. We give Charlie 1/2 to 1/3 cup twice a day and add frozen greenbeans to make him feel like he's getting more food. He is now, at 6 years old, a very healthy weight. (He LOVES his greenbeans)
I believe it is a corgi trait, to think they are always hungry! Lance is the same way. He will let us know when it is breakfast and dinner time, like we might forget....lol. He will start barking to let us know. Oh and if you are cooking for the family he thinks he is suppose to be eating even though it is not feeding time. They definatley try to trick you into thinking they are always hungry. This is why it is so easy for corgis to become overweight and why we have to have the power to not let them trick us into feeding them extra treats and food!
My corgi mix acts like she's hungry all the time and we feed her 3/4 cup 2 times per day. She inhales her food and she's a world-class beggar. If you don't have time to feed by hand, try a mental stimulation toy like the purple flying saucer (large) or those vase-shaped things that have holes in them (the kong's are great too). Fill them with kibble, and seal them shut with either peanut butter or cream cheese. You can use just enough PB or cheese to keep the kibble from falling out, especially if you're worried about packing on poundage. Kitsie usually goes from inhaling her food in a bowl in under 5 minutes to a 30 minutes of licking the toys for all the kibble and peanut butter.
I feed Ginny some of her meals using this:

She has to work to get the food out and it makes her slow down. If she eats too fast, she throws up.
Hey thanks! I checked out the site and it looks like a great idea. My question is... does it get the dog more worked up trying so hard to get to it's food? Or is it more of a calm, focused situation.?
Zeke and Zia act like they are starved to death! They will eat their food (1/2 cup of kibble mixed with green beans and pure pumpkin) in a matter of minutes. Zack could really care less. We have to sit with him and make sure he eats all of his food. I haven't heard of many corgis who "take their time" when eating. LOL!!
