Cost to Neuter
I'm getting my second Corgi tomorrow and he is 6 months old and isn't neutered. I went to banfield the first time with Otto and got him neutered, but he he was setup on their plan which is 25 bucks a month and includes discounts kinda like a dog insurance I guess. Not sure If I want to go back to them or not with the new one so I'm just curious about pricing. Called one vet by me and they said 200.

It's going to depend on your area, but around $200 is what it costs here for a standard neuter. I think Luke's was around $250, and Henry's was ~$450 because he was a cryptorchid. Sometimes the local humane societies will offer low cost spay and neuters also.

I just wanted to see the round about number. So 200 without complications then. I called banfield to see about adding another dog and there is a discount. They said up front costs are about 55 dollars and then about 30 dollars a month for their puppy plan.

Its probably not worth doing a puppy plan on a 6 month old dog. Do you have its vaccine history? By that age it shoul have all of its shots already so really all you woudl get from the puppy plan would be the neuter and it'd probably cheaper to just pay for that in the long run, Spay/neuter clinics are ok if you don't want to spend the money but it'd definitely be worth spending more and going to a regular vet since they will put in an IV catheter, IV fluids, do pre-op bloodwork, and monitor your boy until he is awake. This greatly reduces complications due to surgery. Around $200-$300 sounds about right for my area too. Some places are a bit more, some cheaper, just depends.

I signed up for the plan and everything all together will be a little under 80 dollars and that's including 4 shots and the neuter. I just have to cancel the plan after that. There is no contract. Kinda cheating the system I suppose, but then again I've had Otto on it for a year and a half so they got their money's worth out of me.

I go to banfield and the nurse/vet asst. encouraged me to NOT pay the higher fee to cover neutering with my other puppy, and to just up it for the month when they do it and then change it back. (I guess they know how to cheat the system too!)

Pretty much what I'm doing. They even made him a month younger. I became a fan of Banfield with that. Don't know why people say they are overpriced.

Tucker's was around $250 at a local vet, but I wish I would have known about a reputable low-cost program around here. They do it for $55 with great reviews.

Long long ago my mom took her dog to a clinic that specialized in low cost spay/neuter. The dog needed to have a boil removed and came back spayed, too. Since my mom had hoped to breed the dog she took them to court, where they presented forged documents and lied. I had another incident with a low cost clinic where the vet yelled at me in the lobby and told me to never come back. I forget what it was about, but I shy away from clinics now. Sometimes you only get what you pay for. What if something goes wrong during the neuter? Would a clinic be prepared to deal with it? Even a high cost vet can make mistakes, so be sure and get references and do your research!

Yes that is the thing that kinda lures me away from cheap cheap stuff. Banfield as far as I'm concerned has everything as needed to take care of anything unexpected. I really hate when certain places screw up something like that. It's horrible.

We are so blessed where we live. Cost us $99 for Brodie. (Of course when we had to take him back to the ER over night to get staples when he chewed out the sutures it cost us that much again!)

We have something local here (eastern panhandle of WV and northernVA) not sure if it's national or not) but it's called "Spay Today". You can get a voucher off the website that some local vets honor and it gives a really nice discount on spays, neuters, and required vaccines.

I was extremely lucky, as I use a vet that comes to my house. He has a mobile office, so he was able to spay Lilly right in the driveway in his "office". She recovered at home, thankfully with no complications, and very minor stress. Cost about 130 dollars.
